At risk of sticking my foot in my mouth for talking about shit I really don't know, I'm just going to say a very observant Jew. My understanding is that while some say they must be orthodox, not everyone agrees.
In England, I lived in a "frummer" neighborhood. I was never really sure what it meant. It was one of those terms that only Jewish people used, but they always appeared to be talking about the Orthodox. -
Mamacita wrote: [quote=daver][quote=Carmen]my question is this: what exactly constitutes a park slope yuppie? My hipster friends call me a yuppie but I have neither a giant SUV stroller nor a co-op membership.
I believe that for hipsters, just _residing_ in Park Slope is enough to qualify one as a yuppie. They have low standards, ya know.
'orly??? That's it! Let's arm wrestle! I'll take you down boy
I remember Yuppies back in the 80's. What do you call a Yuppie when they are no longer Young????
I like Grumpies. -
Gosh, do you think this thread is going to show up on the Gawker?
-
Naw. It's too funny and silly. Gawker only likes it when people flip out over gentrification issues or dumb things.
-
yuppie bashing? I thought this board was famous for bicycle, vespa, and motorcycle bashing

We're equal opportunity bashers!!

Well good cuz I hate umpa lumpas!

Those little fuckers scare me. :help: -
I like the Oompa-Loompas in the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka. (Hate Depp as Wonka, but that's a rant for another post.) But the green-haired orange-skinned ones? Ugh.

Is this the Restless Native memorial post? I hadn't thought of "yups" and all their evils in awhile, and now I'm nostalgic for the old times. *sigh*

I'm not.
P.S. I know that was sarcasm.

He's rumored to be in Yuppie detox -
What about Young Urban Professionals who are also Hipsters? I propose "Yuphies," which (I further propose) rhymes with "fluffies."
Alternatively they could be called "People who live in Williamsburg." -
Yuphies, fluffies, furries, yiffing, :albino: :cat: it all happens in Williamsburg.
(bwahaha...sorry, could not resist) -
I've always been partial to Yunnies (Young Urban Narcissists) ever since I discovered the word on Jeremiah's Vanishing NY.

How about "Sluppies"? Slope Yuppies
-
All this talk about "fluffers" ... I don't understand ...
-
Hmm, my husband says Yuppie + Hipster = "Yupster," not "Yuphie." I might agree with him. Easier to parse.
Just sayin'. -

Because they are fake, phonies, vapid with no soul and culture of their own while at the same time possessing the most overinflated self-opinion known to modern man. Observe:kosherdave wrote: someone has to be blamed for the vile act of making the nabe nice.
How would you feel if your family were part of the community here when the neighborhood 'wasn't nice,' and you had people like Kosher Dave basically calling you and your family trash in a roundabout way? Kinda makes you feel like being not-so-nice to these people, doesn't it?
I personally complain about Soprano-wannabe Italian-Americans, Puerto Ricans, Irish, Blacks, Hasidic Jews, and Chinese all the time. At times in my household it probably sounds like the bathroom scene from "25th Hour" where Ed Norton curses out every ethnic group in New York. However, no one brings out such a visceral reaction in me as yuppies and their hipster cousins (who are really just yuppies in incubation).
I used to let them get to me, but now I just laugh at them. Feeling sorry for them is really the most appropriate response, as they are going to go all the way to death like that, never waking up out of their rehearsed stupor or really living from the heart. They will go to the grave living life for other yuppies' approval, and there's no worse punishment than that. -
You speak like a true yuppie, Obamanut.
Bra-vo. -

I just wanna say, in the immortal words of Warren Oates:

Anyone who can quote "Stripes" is worthy of my worship.

I like Yupster the best so far.

I see, because the true indicator of a soul and culture of one's own is bigotry. Glad you straightened us out on that point! -

What ever happened to preppies?
"Saved by the Bell" went off the air. Without Zach Morris, how could we know who fit the bill? -
