Smith9th station closing and bus route changes in Red H — Brooklynian

Smith9th station closing and bus route changes in Red H

The MTA is getting ready to drastically reduce the public transportation in Red Hook (such as it is). The Smith&9th subway station will close at the end of 2008 for an undetermined period of time, and when Ikea opens, the B61 and B77 bus routes will get longer by serving Ikea -with no additional buses making the route longer, making waits longer, and making the buses more crowded.

So, in addition to not having a subway station anywhere near the neighborhood, the only two buses that serve us will be less frequent and more crowded (with people who used to take the subway AND shoppers carrying huge Ikea bags) due to the longer route.

If you are concerned about the dismal state of public transportation in our neighborhood, please try to attend the CB6 meeting on this topic. They have invited rep's from the MTA to discuss these changes.
The meeting is at 6:30pm on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Call the board for the location at 718.643.3027 (it was tbd as of a few days ago).

thanks.
