Non-comedogenic, my ass! — Brooklynian

Non-comedogenic, my ass!

no, I don't have pimples on my ass (thank God), but I used some Neutrogena sunblock when I was at the beach last week and now my skin is awful.

Bastards!

  • Like, how awful? Pics please!*

*kidding about pics- I often sit in front of dumputer eating whatever's close to me, so pics would really fuck me up. :-&

On a more serious note, you should call their 800 number or whatever they have and see what they can do, maybe you can at least get a refund.
  • just bumps (little whiteheads) all over my face. I feel like a teenager.

I can't get a refund because I didn't buy it - it was my friend's. But I might still call because there was nothing else changed which could have caused this.

No pics. I'll spare you ;-)
  • SPF 2000 aka Tar.
  • Wow - I use their stuff on my face all the time and that doesn't happen. Maybe it was really old and the oil had separated in the bottle. Suck! I totally recommend Clean and Clear Persagel. You dot the white shit on your pimple and it's almost gone by the next day. Love it.
  • Flexichick, was it a high SPF? If it was, check for helioplex as an ingredient. You may be allergic to that.

I used a Neutrogena sunscreen at the end of May on my arms and broke out in a rash. Helioplex was an ingredient. Supposedly a small percentatge of people are allergic to the helioplex ingredient.

    I'm back to using Kiehl's.
  • yes, high spf - 55 with helioplex. You could be right. thanks!

Scarlett, I have some Persagel, but I don't think it works as well for me as it does for other people. Is there more than one kind?
  • I forgot to add that I used Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser to soothe the affected area and since the rash didn't respond to calendula, I had to borrow my mom's topical steriod cream.

But if it's only whiteheads - a clay face cleanser, tea tree toner and Duac gel(it's prescription though) should do the trick.
  • My darling Flexi, it took me forever to figure out why that kind of thing kept happening to me. Then I finally found out that, among other things, certain ingredients are pretty damn comedogenic.
Then I started to find out all the other stuff that's comedogenic, chemical or natural. There's a lot of it!!! This is one of the pages I refer to:
    http://www.betterhealthyskin.com/lets-talk-cosmetics-james-e-fulton-jr-md-phd.aspx

So now I'm pretty careful about what I buy. Once you figure out which ingredients bother you, avoid them like the plague. It takes a lot of trial and error, but your skin will be much happier. ;)

Oh, and the same goes for hair products too. I've cut out all Sodium Laurel Sulfates and Silicones and it makes a big difference.

Basically I've narrowed it down to Dr. Bronner's Castille soap (Hemp based) for my skin, Giovanni and Burt's Bees for my hair, and Lily Lolo mineral foundation. And if I do get the occasional blemish (they still tend to pop up where my glasses sit on my nose) I dab it with Tea Tree oil. Sunscreen is really hard to find though. I just got some Alba Botanical mineral sunscreen, and so far, so good.

    Later!
  • thanks, caaaaaaaaaaahyoko. I'll check it out
  • I'm happy to help ;)
