Concerns about IKEA — Brooklynian

Concerns about IKEA

Well, IKEA is slated to open their doors on June 18.
Salivating eager customers are invited to line up two days before that, but not earlier. (WTF?! who lines up days before IKEA starts?!)

Vaduz Uvunt rightly points out that we have been doing a lot of bitching, but little else. While I think complaining is definitely our strong suit, there is a good point here.

IKEA is projecting a tremendous increase in traffic. We all know that this is just a fuster cluck waiting to happen. How many kids have been killed on the corner of Wolcott and Richards due to crappy driving conditions?
How many people have noticed since the Fairway opened all the drivers who are perpetually lost, breaking the law, or trying to run me over? Last time I was in a car on a weekend day, I was scared for my life.

We all know that the only time the police are around when the stupid cruise line tour buses need directing. And none of them are even from the 76th preceint, so they definitely can't be slated for traffic duty.

We need to come up with a plan of how we can keep from being run over.

Suggestions?

  • Leroy Branch is the Assistant District Manager for Community Board District 6, which Red Hook falls within. The number there is 718.643.3027.

The wonderful fellow with the curls in his 'stache, Mr. John McGettrick, is the co-chairman for the Red Hook Civic Association.

I'm sure they've been having some sort of scheduled meetings to discuss all this. But, maybe we should all get involved to make sure everyone in the neighborhood protects Red Hook, ourselves and each other.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

    Feels like it...
  • The Ikea version:

And I looked, and behold a pale kitchen cart, and it's name was FÖRHÖJA and what sat on it was Meatballs, and coffee followed it.

But in all seriousness, a community group should collect and document incidents as they arise due to the Ikea traffic nightmare and other issues (Pollution/Trash?).
  • well you could look at the bright side. free bus rides if you live next to ikea or work in finance area in mahattan, free water taxi there :).
