Brief A.O.C rant — Brooklynian

Brief A.O.C rant

livetotravel
edited November -1 in Park Slope
Leaking a/c vents, dead sun flowers in a big glass brick vase on the bar with really dirty water, salt shakers unshakable because of clotted salt (guess they don't know about adding rice!) onglet steak too sinewy & almost couldn't cut through it, and a "cash or Amex only" notification in the world's smallest typeface on the menu - so had to walk to bank to get enough cash on top of it.

It's the small things, you know!

  • A leaky AC is all I need to hear...can't stand that.
  • What the hell does A.O.C. stand for?
  • A.O.C. is Appellation d’origine contrôlée, which roughly translates "of controlled origin" is a certification given by the French government to certain geographical designations for agricultural products (wine, cheese, butter, etc), meaning that certain products can only be called by a specific name if it is from the region specified by the government decree, e.g. Roquefort.
  • Not in this case, Bergenites.

It is an offshoot of the West Village bistro A.O.C, "l’Ail ou la Cuisse" ("the wing or the thigh").

  • well, even so, to anyone French AOC will mean what I described.
  • Yes, I know what Bergenites is talking about. If you want to eat at a GOOD place called AOC, try AOC Bedford in the W. Village. They have an excellent cheese selection
  • Yep, Bergenites, not disputing that. Owned my own little piece of heaven over there until it was high time to sell in recent years, so am very familiar with the term. Was just referring to the name and owners in this particular case.

And Flexi, you might wanna check out the one I cited above on Bleecker and Grove...very charming corner neighborhood place especially during summertime, with the garden.

As for AOC Bedford, sadly, they closed for good in April.

    Bummer. :(

And a lovely "double entendre" it is!
  • Jeffrey - AOC Bedford closed? Phooey. They did good cheese. I know the other AOC too, but haven't eaten there yet

Yep, I guess you could say it has what the French would call a certain...eh, I don't know what. :)
