Subject: What's on your bagel?

Let's hear it...what's your bagel and topping of choice? I'll start:
1) sesame w/whitefish
2) sesame w/chopped liver
3) (sit down) salt with butter and jelly--pref. strawberry.

  • Salt with low fat veggie cream cheese
  • 1) any kind (especially everything) with cream cheese, red onion and nova
    2) any kind except sesame with whitefish salad
    3) toasted salt with butter
    4) any kind with cream cheese

non-traditional option: toasted salt with melted Jarlsberg (in the toaster oven, not a microwave)
  • Toasted bialy with veggy cream cheese, belly (ie salty) lox or sable, sliced tomato and little bits of bermuda onion. Yum!

Or rye bagel with cream cheese and sliced green olives
  • toasted pumpernickel with olive oil..
  • Cream cheese & lox. Onion optional.

And anyone who prefers anything else is probably a Commie.

    Or worse, a tourist.
  • Salt with Scallion Cream Cheese
Everything Toasted with plain cream cheese and sliced tomato
    Pumpernickel toasted with butter
  • everything with sun dried tomato
cinnamon raisin or whole wheat with walnut raisin

for lunch today, it was a whole wheat with turkey and swiss, from the place behind Atlantic Center...
  • I'm a Plain Jane- Salt, nothin' on it.

But put tomato on anything and I'll eat it.

    ummm....that sounded bad....
I'll get my head out of the toilet if you guys do the same!

I predict Drunken Revivalist will show up in 3.....2......1....

  • Day 1 (preferably Sunday) - fresh everything bagel with whipped cream cheese and lox

Day 2 (i.e. leftover bagels) - Everything bagel toasted with butter
  • Everything with veggie cream cheese

    or

cinnamon raisin with walnut raisin cream cheese

the savory and sweet if you will.
  • everything w/veggie cream cheese
everything, poppy or sesame with red onion, cream cheese, capers and tomatoes

for the wife, everything with strawberry cream cheese. i know, i know...but she's from california, what do you expect?
  • Well, my preference for toasted everything/onion/garlic with butter AND cream cheese is well-known.

My stand-by order is toasted everything/onion/garlic with egg, cheese, and tomato.

    Asiago, anyone?
  • I will confess...when I lived elsewhere, I really loved the (running for the border in 3...2...1...) chocolate chip bagels toasted with butter, and appreciate the airport Au Bon Pain asiago bagel.

    There, I've said it.

Nova lox & CC for sure, maybe chives w/those onions. Onion bagel #1 choice ahead of garlic. Sesame uggh!

Oooh yeah, the chocolate chip bagel with cinnamon cream cheese was killer at the Einstein Bagels that I used to frequent in Boston.

However; I live in NYC now and as such...

    1. onion or garlic bagel with bacon, egg and cheese
    2. salt bagel with lox spread (mmmmmm, sodium coma!)
    3. onion or garlic bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese

    Mmmmmmm.
  • Main Course
Sesame bagel (lightly toasted if not warm) with veggie cream cheese, red onion, eastern gaspe smoked salmon, a little white fish if I have it, a light squeeze of lemon and some fresh ground pepper.
    Dessert
Poppy bagel with 1/2 white fish salad and 1/2 tuna or egg salad.

    Coffee and fresh squeezed OJ.

Finished up with the Sunday New York Times and a 2 hour nap.
  • tosted poppy bagel with veg. cream cheese

I am so filled with loathing right now...
  • I grew up in Miami, where the bagel flavors were certainly pretty out there. I have fond memories of choco-chip bagels, guava bagels, and other flavors i can't remember at the moment.

it was strange when i moved here and DIDN'T see them on menus.
  • Tough, tough question:

    1) irrelevance
    2) dog poop
    3)
    3) flexichicks
    4) strollers
    5) 1/4 smoked cigarette butts from outside union hall
    6) rainbows
    7) full belly mosquitoes

    Toasted please.

this is why you should never eat a bagel outside of nyc.

who's the person that said, "you know what would be a good tasting bagel - Guava?" must have been some serious drugs.
  • Toasted everything bagels with peanut butter and grape jelly.

    Trust me. Its amazing.
  • Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese.

Or if I'm using a bagel as a medium for a sandwich, then onion bagel with buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, sundried tomato, and olive oil.
  • Jamzer I like the way you think. I was with you the bagels, with you on cream cheese, ok on white fish sure, liking the red onion and samon then you said it "a squeeze of lemon" and I started to droll.
  • I rarely eat them but when I do I have a plain bagel with cream cheese (a shmeer and not globbed) and a nice slice of nova lox. Belly lox ( the salty one) never got bought in my house when I was a kid so to me lox is only nova.
  • Philadelphia full fat cream cheese and Fairway Norwegian lox

That's smoked salmon, not lox, right? Lox is cured, not smoked, and is much saltier than smoked salmon. I never get lox unless I make it myself (really easy to do with good quality raw salmon fillet, sugar and salt with or without herbs).
  • I haven't had a bagel in years.

I use to toast mine and then spread "I can't believe it's not butter" on it.
