Sunset Pool — Brooklynian

Sunset Pool

I finally checked out the pool today with my little ones and it certainly is nice and big but I don't see why the only kiddie part is the walk way. I also did not like that they only had about 10 chairs available and no umbrellas or shade except for the life guards. I had asked if we could bring shade or beach chair and was told it is not allowed, so are people suppose to risk skin cancer in order to go to the pool? Clearly they deem it neccessry for the lifeguards to have sun safety so why not the rest of us common folks? Personally I am not a big pool fan nothing beats a clean beach but we are in NY so I guess good luck with that one too :-(

  • The sand volleyball court was built in the area that used to be a diving pool. There had been requests for a kiddie pool there, but apparently the powers that know so much better decided that a sand volleyball court was more necessary. Sad, really.

As for beaches within train/bus/walking distance: I've gone to Coney Island all the way down where the nursing homes are. If you take the train to Stillwell and walk the street/boardwalk past the stadium, until about West 24th/West 25th Street, it's pretty empty and pretty clean. With two kids, it could be a challenge, so invite a child-friendly friend and buy him/her an ice cream from the fudgie guy.
