77th Precinct Community Council Meeting Monday November 14 — Brooklynian

77th Precinct Community Council Meeting Monday November 14

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I just got off the phone with Det. Raton (nice guy). The next meeting will be held at:

Greater Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, 887 St Marks Ave

Time: 7:30pm

I plan to ask about the "gun fire" last month. Did it happen? I know alot of people have questions about our near and dear friend "Keith" & "Mr Sparkles".

Some people would like to know why it took 22 shots to stop a (alleged) mugger.

Crips, Bloods, Jets, Sharks, Decepticons, Transformers - OH MY.

Will any people get booted?

This is where the rubber hits the road, people.

***Could the mods make this a sticky please? Thankee***

  • Thanks Quig - I thought it was the first Monday of the month am I wrong?
  • Nope, 2nd Monday. The screwy thing is that the venue changes, but the website doesn't.
  • The last two months I forgot about it - thanks for putting the sticky up - I really want to make it to this one.
  • Can't wait to see the people from DH there. Especially the ones who talk junk about the police department and the precint council.
  • Greater Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, 887 St Marks Ave
What are the between street for this address?
  • So who went? How was it?
  • I was there.

    You were not.

A few years ago James Caldwell had a triple bypass.
  • Please keep posting these, Lawrence. I was going last night, but a friend called and needed help moving stuff around.

--James, whose epitaph will definitely read "Killed By Good Intent."
  • I found it to be very interesting - and thanks to Quig for showing me the ropes.

Was this to me? I usually have class on mondays and other days too, I made it the other time because class was cancelled.

I went last time becasue I wanted to see the James Caldwell dog and pony show, however I think he has lost a lot of clout with regard to the Arena due the the 5 million dollar payoff thing since then.

I dont know if its something I would go to regularly, there were good spots but mostly awfully organized with a lot of time wasting thrown in, but it's James's show right? Even the opening prayer was rediculously long.

Did the motorcycle gang come back and do another half hour irrelevant presentation of their Katrina work to address complaints of wheelies and mufflers? By the way, when I went they were introduced by the Republican guy that ran against L. James.

I agree with you there Captain - it can definately be pushed along faster. I also though the prayer was way too long and not everyone in this neighborhood is Christian.

No but the family, friends & neighbors of the young honor student killed in September made a passioned plea for more help from the police dept.

The council also spoke about their X-mas gift drive - especially helping those in New Orleans. The drop off location is on Washington Avenue at an Outreach Center (Im not sure if this is correct I do not have the actual flyer with me)

I found the police department to be very receptive to the community members who spoke.

Also this board should thank Quig for bringing up the problem we are having with our aggressive panhandler.

I'm sure that the police dept and the da's office are doing everything that they can do about this matter.
  • I'll be the first to admit that the meetings have a high chaff/wheat ratio.

An added benefit is to voice your concerns about quality of life issues directly to the people who can do something about them. It just pisses me off that people will piss moan and whine about the police, crime etc.. but they wont put in the “show up” equity at these events.

Living in this community should not be a passive exercise.

Some observations: Recently there has been a noticeable gang presence around St. Johns / New York Ave that has the block association up in arms. Also, the honor student that was shot in the head in September (I checked Google up and down, but I couldn’t get his name), the block association was there with his mother, in force, not letting this issue go.

Mr. Caldwell did mention Daily Heights in his opening remarks. I almost stood up and gave a “whoop!” but that would be gauche. Something to the effect <paraphrase> I don’t get on the internet that much… some are spreading lies about me that I had a quadruple bypass surgery, I had triple bypass surgery. </paraphrase>

That is exclusively my error in my first foray into "journalism". I was so shocked he would go on for so long about a murdered girl and screwup the street name and later go on about a murdered boy and forget his name.... I screwed up quadruple for triple.

To all DH and James Caldwell I apologize.

Stacey, the aspect of the neighborhood police interaction was the best part of the meeting definately.

Quig, you are right about not enough people going, I owe you a beer,
