Trader Joes Brooklyn: Opening Date — Brooklynian

Trader Joes Brooklyn: Opening Date

mpmav1
edited November -1 in Park Slope
For all those Trader Joe's Junkies out there... I just talked with a soon-to-be employee for the TJ's in Brooklyn who informed me that they are scheduled to open September 28th.

I guess September 1 was the original date... but not suprisingly, that has been pushed back.

I will be in line on opening day! I'm sick of hauling all my frozen stuff from Manhattan!

  • Yay! More TJs!

That said, opening day in Manhattan was ridiculous. The papers were running stories about lines running around the block. Shelves were wiped out and it was pandemonium (and still is pretty packed....one of the few things I like about the suburbs is shopping at the TJ's by my mom's house)
  • Where exactly is TJ's going to be?
  • 130 Court St
  • Mpmav1, your border collie looks just like mine, Maggie...she's beautiful!

Thank you! Actually... surprisingly, he is not a border collie. He is a mini Australian Shepard that has the exact same coloring as a border collie. If you saw him in person, you could tell as he's a bit beefy-er and has a cropped tail.

Also, I think your sheep is adorable as well! :)
  • these avatars are too cute! but back to the topic...I can't wait for TJ to open. I shop at the one on long island when i go out there. i didn't love the one in the city that much because when i went there they were a little to crazy for me. plus, the prices were higher for things than they were on LI. curious to see what the prices will look like when they open here.
  • i am excited for it but will not even consider going until several weeks after its opening. i know it will be a ZOO. i predict it will have similar inflated prices like manhattan.

Wait, you just made a post about how you love the markets in bed Stuy -- but now you're talking about going to Trader Joe's?

    ...What do you mean harrassing?
  • I used to live in downtown Philly and was thrilled when a TJ's opened two blocks from my apt. there, but long after it opened, I still avoided it on the weekends -- totally mobbed, shelves picked clean, every register open and still lines well back into the grocery aisles. I imagine this one will be much the same (haven't been to the Union Square location); weekday afternoons will probably be the best time to go.

Yes, it is exactly the same in the Union Square location. However, interestingly enough, the best time to go is weekend evenings (from my experience).
  • For folks not close to Brooklyn Heights and Carrol Gardens, 130 Court St still isn't really a great location if you don't have a car... maybe they'll have delivery service like the one in Manhattan, though.
  • Wow, my little post got picked up by Gowanus Lounge. (http://www.gowanuslounge.com/2008/07/07/new-trader-joes-rumor-opening-september-28/)

    I'm so proud.

As well you should be - dispensing critically important information for the food lovers among us
  • I go to the one at Union Station every once and a while during my lunch hour (1-2 pm). I work near 100 Centre Street, hop on the 4 train, get in and make my few purchases. The lines can get long, but they move fast if you are in the ten or fewer line. I've never noticed the shelves "picked clean," but maybe I'm not buying what everyone else likes. Also, someone else complained about inflated prices, but I think the prices on some items are very good. Looking forward to the Court Street store opening. That way my wife can go on her lunch hour and I won't have to do it anymore.
  • I spoke with a TJ person yesterday at their queens location (teh awesome, btw) and was told TJs is looking for another location in upper manhattan (UWS, maybe), queens and at least two others in brooklyn.
    yay!
    xo
  • Another couple in Brooklyn?

9th and 5th, baby - the old Eckerd. Please please please...
  • Oh, that would be sooo fabulous in the Eckerd space!

It's a block or two from the Bergen Street station on the F, isn't it?

Yep, and a 3-minute walk up Court to Court Street-Borough Hall for the 2/3, 4/5, and R; in addition along that stretch of Atlantic cabs are easy to get and there are car service storefronts to boot . . . so while they may not carry you on a litter and feed you peeled grapes, Court and Atlantic is a fairly centrally-located part of Brooklyn.

I can't wait. I live within walking distance, so I can fit it in around the Sahadi runs.
