flyers, menus, circulars, etc.
anyone else feel beseiged by the level of tree-based spam that gets left in your fence, gate, mailbox, doorway, stoop, etc.?
better yet, has anyone found a way to stop it?
does it work to post a sign saying "no menus" or some such? is there an equivalent of a do-not-call list for paper advertising? and why must they always leave 12 copies of everything?
i don't find it such a terrible hassle to pick the stuff up every day and toss it in the recycling, but what bothers me is when i'm out of town for a few days, it piles up, practically screaming out to potential burglars "no one is here! break in at your leisure!"

There is no good way to deal with it. "No Menus" signs and the like do not work, because assholes ignore them. It's all just one more thing we put up with to live in NYC.
I just wish that I could get one annual combined flyer and be done with it. It would tell me the specials at all the local grocery stores, include a universal menu for all neighborhood restaurants, where to get a locksmith service, which car services were in the neighborhood, and who to call to sell my landlord's building. It would weigh 38 tons, be viewable from space, and become a line-item negotiating point for the Dept. of Sanitation. -
Anyone get a flyer on their door yesterday
"Mail Delivery on Vanderbuilt sucks!", or somehing to that extent. And then told people to call the post office?
was that from a DH person? -
Unfortunately there is very little that we can do to stop this invasion of our privacy except to call the companies and give them hell. I once collected two garbage bags of the weekly sales newspaper and left them in the isles at Pathmark with a note telling them where to put it.
flyers, postcards, and brochures left on your property are illegal but I don't know how you can get the authority to take action. -
I understand that Brooklyn Heights has managed to enact some restrictions against this and that the companies that hand these things out won't work there because of it. I think they can be fined and it is enforced.
I don't know the details, I just heard this from a friend who owns a store that wanted to have some fliers handed out.
Anyone know the details? -
My gripe is that they are basically handing out garbage which becomes my garbage to deal with. I hate seeing flyers on my car. It's just another thing that I have to throw away. I think this "litter" should be outlawed. I mean, if I take the flyer off my car and throw it on the ground, then I am littering. But if someone places one under my windshield wiper they are not? Give me a break!

I hate that they give you another menu when you get delivery. Erm, I obviously am already covered, thanks.

I have once. I give it a "meh".Candicissima wrote: I hate that they give you another menu when you get delivery. Erm, I obviously am already covered, thanks.
Maybe they want to make sure you have the most up-to-date version (and prices). They should ask which menu you're ordering from before they send it out. Then they could be like, "Dude, you're still running 3.4? You've got to upgrade!"

Funny. I like it. -

there was a perfectly good vegan chinese place there before (i believe from the same owners as Tofu on 7th.) this is probably why i'm resistant towards Sushi Tatsu. -
