good place to find avg cost for 1 br in Park Slope?
I tried rentometer.com and it said $2000 for a 1-br in Park Slope. I've looked on Craigslist and a lot of other Realtor sites, but I'm always curious what other people actually pay so I have an idea. I tried searching in the archives here but didn't come up with any threads where people posted an approx. spot (North/South Slope), size and price.
We (me and my fiancee) are thinking about moving to Park Slope and are wondering if our budget will make sense. I lived there before but I shared a place then and it was a while back so I'm not sure what the averages truly are.
So wants to say what they pay, the area and the size to give me an entirely unscientific representation? Or point me somewhere else if that info might exist and you know about it, my searches aren't turning up much other than listings.
Thanks

well you'll get rent stabilized prices and market prices if you just ask. and you may not be able to get into a rent stabilized unit, so you might want to concentrate on those apts $2000 and over that are at market rates.

I will have a 1 bedroom in a north slope brownstone in aug. 1st. The rent is 1560. However, I promised the apartment to a girl from brooklynian a week ago. She will see the place sometime during the next week or so. If she is not interested, you can see the place.
On aug. 1st I will hand the keys over to a broker (something I don't like to do but now would rather have someone show the apartment then have me waste my time). When/if that will happen, you will have a brokers fee. -
Just checked out rentometer. had no idea the rent in the area went up so much....
seems like EVERYONE around my building is charging at least $400 more.
cool website...thanks. -
I can only chime in with my personal experience- I was shopping for a 1br or studio for about a month. Almost everything I came across that was really in park/south slope and was in decent shape was $1600+. I lucked out and found a small (350 sq foot) but brand new studio for 1500 including utilities (it is rent stabilized.) The "good deals" are out there but you have to do a lot of craigslist reloading and spend lots of time looking.

I have spent an unbelievable amount of time looking to move in Park Slope, and am finally coming to the conclusion that I will stay where I'm at. Anyhow, here are my thoughts:
It completely depends on what you consider to be "park slope." Let's not get into the "what is park slope" argument please! BUT, from my experience, you can get into a 1br for about $1600 in the outskirts of what many consider to be park slope. I'm talking south of Prospect Ave or west of 4th ave. If you are thinking Park Slope Proper (IMO, somewhere north of Prospect Ave, east of 5th ave, south of Flatbush), you are looking at more like $1750.
Of course, as many have said, you can always find deals. I found a 700 sq foot 1br in South Slope for $1500 last year, that I have decided to stay in. Usually, these deals are an owner of a brownstone who are willing to rent below market, to ensure they get lots of apps and like their tenants.
Be careful of brokers... many will post false ads on Craigslist, only to tell you it just rented (in one of my experiences, 23 minutes later), and try to hook you into using them. In my personal opinion, RapidNYC is the worst.
Anyhow, best of luck. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me.
Cheers. -
I pay 1460 for a 2 bedroom railroad on Union & 5th. Of course, it is rent stabilized. I look at Park Slope apartments in Craigslist everyday (we're expecting...) and can't believe how little you get for your money is this neighborhood. We will probably stay in PS till the little one is about 2 and then move to Dyker Heights.

i'm in a 2 bedroom in a brownstone but the people below us are in a 1 bedroom (floor through) and they pay i think $1800 (i inquired before they moved in about a year ago for a friend of mine). it's not refurbished but it's on a pretty block in north slope.

We rent out the one-bedroom floorthrough, with garden, in our brownstone for $1800/month. The apt. is large and clean and in excellent shape, but does not have a dishwasher or washer/dryer. We've been very fortunate... most of our tenants in the apartment have stayed for several years. Our current tenants are in their fourth year, and have told us they have no desire to move until they can afford to buy something of their own.
