Board or Boards? — Brooklynian

Board or Boards?

This may sound trivial, but I've been running around saying, "it was posted on the Prospect Heights message boards" but it occurred to me that some people would say "it was posted on the Prospect Heights message board." Which one is correct? (Or which one do you use?)

  • ummm, I think you might have a little too much time on your hands...
  • Acually I don't, which is why I'm asking.

    It's complicated...

And I have to say, I'm pretty amazed that "Board" is taking an early lead. I may have to shift my paradigm. And leverage my synergy.
  • OK, now it's 8 to 1. Guess I'm an idiot after all.
  • I don't think you're an idiot--I just think it's a nuance of usage. I wouldn't refer to the Prospect Heights-specific page that you're looking at as boards, because it's just one page. But I *would* refer to "the message boardS at dailyheights.com" because that encompasses the other neighborhood boards. I guess what it boils down to is that I consider a page with a list of topics to be one board; but most sites that offer a discussion area will have more than one board unless it's really small or disorganized.
  • me and my ph friends simply call dailyheights.com "the website."
  • the bored...
  • so, speaking of this, i've always thought that the text link on the top of each thread that goes back to the index is ridiculously long - why does it need to say "prospect heights forum (message boards)|dailyheights.com main forum"? there are only two hyperlinks up there, but they go across the whole page (and sometimes more). wouldn't "dailyheights forums->prospect heights" forum suffice?

I too think it's rather lengthy, but I presumed there was a good reason for it. I wouldn't want to get all acronym happy or anything, but making it more concise would be much easier on the eyes! ;-)
  • I agree with EmilyM.

The paradigm within my pea brain is that a "board" has a series of threads. And DH has several "boards" ...

    Semantics again ...
