Or rather I'd like to. My problem is this- I am a weakling and I will be purchasing one or two largish items (a table and a desk most likely) and I can't carry them from my car to my first-floor apt myself. My boyfriend is working and my best friends are all out of town....soooo I was wondering if anyone wanted to come fight the crowd with me. I'll drive and give you/your stuff a ride home (and an extra hand into your apartment) if you'll help me carry/drag my shit into my place.

Deal? I'd like to leave around 1:30-2. Iknow its going to be a total mess in there but I'm willing to deal with it for my cheapo table. Anyone down?

  • I still haven't braved Ikea yet, but I will one day during the week.

That said, I'd check online availability for the store before fighting off the crowds. I hear they are having a hard time keeping stocked
  • good idea. I'll do this...

This is a great idea. Tues we went and bought a bed and a matress. However.. neither was in stock so it was ordered from the warehouse and we did not take the items home. There is an extra charge when items come from the warehouse and I assume it will take longer for delivery. the first available date for delivery was July 19. I don't think that particular bed and matress was available on line but I was disappointed coming home empty handed. In store if you ask when the item will be instock (at least in the bedding department) they had absolutely no idea and suggested that we just come back and see every few days if the item is in stock. yeah... just what I need to do waste time and more money because it is impossible to walk through that maze and not bu something, even if the something are plastic plates for $5.
  • For a nominal rate I can help you get the furniture to your apt. I can even assemble if need be.
  • carmen, I'll go with you during the week if you'd like. I was just there today: it is officially evil during the weekend. but I can carry shit easily. and I don't need anything but I will offer advice. ;)

    xo
  • Can I just say? Ikea sucks, imo. I went there today to buy a crib (they have very cool looking cribs, btw, especially for those who hate that frilly shit). I looked first on their website, which said that this item was not available to order online--you had to go to the store to buy it, and the site stated that it was In Stock at the Brooklyn store.

So, one $14 cab ride later, I get there and the crib is in fact not in stock. None of the cribs are in stock, for that matter. And you can't order one, you supposedly have to just come back in two weeks and try your luck. I complained to the manager, but that didn't even get me a swedish meatball.

Their customer service is crap, but you get what you pay for I suppose.
  • Laura.. they told you an untruth.. it can be ordered from the warehouse.. at an extra charge and about a 2 week lead time for delivery. But.. you need to persist. When I bought a bed a week ago I went through 2 not knowledeable emplyees before the 3rd person explained the situation. I was willing to pay the extra money to NEVER return to Ikea.

Sorry you didn't get what you needed and had a bad experience.
