Where have the Tuesday Fort Greene Park Concerts Gone?
Comments

Wow. 33 views yet no one can speak on why we don't have our nice concerts anymore? This neighborhood truly has been destroyed.
-
I don't recall there being concerts on Tuesdays, but I do remember the dance parties on Sundays -- those are still going on this summer, but not until a bit later.
http://www.fortgreenepark.org/pages/calendar.htm
According to that calendar, there's actually a concert coming up this Saturday, and another a few weeks later as part of the Afro Punk festival another poster mentioned.
Also, Guest from 10:17? Just because people live in the neighborhood and/or view this thread doesn't mean they have anything to do with the status of concerts in Fort Greene Park. -
If you don't remember the tuesday concerts you must be very new to the area. They were cityparks concerts and had been a summer tradition for quite a few decades. Tuesdays at 7. Roy Ayers, War, etc. They were lovely the whole neighborhood would go. Myself and many others strongly suspect that the "newcomers" complained and got them shut down.
-
Well, if what you suspect is actually the case, that's a shame. I live pretty close to the Park, and I've been in the neighborhood for almost 4 years; I realize that's quite new. But I think it'd be fun.

I have been living in the neighborhood for 5 years now and I do not ever remember there being concerts on Tuesday nights. I for one am sick and tired of all the "long timers" blaming the "new comers" for any and all changes in the neighborhood. Just because there are "new comers" in the neighborhood does not mean they/we are responsible for all the changes that are happening in the neighborhood.
Things change, life changes, move on and accept it already and stop blaming the "new comers". You have absolutely no proof to support this blame game. -
Guest, please play nice in your threads and stop the anti-gentrification baiting.
Commenting on concerts (or lack thereof) = ok
Immediately responding with condescending 'newcomer' comments = not ok
you've made your anti-newcomer agenda very well known in other posts, if you continue to turn every thread into a gentrification argument, I'll simply delete your posts.

I said suspect not blame. Anyhow last year was the first year with no concerts. I don't know how you could have missed them but they were great.

They are missed. -
Those concerts were great. They were a stable for many years and had a lot of older R&B acts that performed or neo soul acts. The last one that I saw was when Bilal performed a couple of years ago. I don't know why they have been eliminated but they are missed.

They were great concerts, and if I'm not mistaken, they were sponsored and funded by the City Parks Foundation. They are still doing concerts, but not in Ft Greene Park this year. Since they have limited funds, I think they like to rotate the parks where they have events. Here is the current sched:

Thanks. They were in Fort Greene park every year for the last 15 or 20 years until last year. They don't rotate parks. They have always been at Von King and Brower park too. Fort Greene is just off the list all of a sudden. I wonder why...

I am asking a pertinent question. You can't tell people what to post. I don't see mod or admin under your name. Nobody has a gun to your head making you come in this thread.

I seriously doubt that this guest is trying to stir something up. What they say is true....some of the artists used to rotate between the 3 parks. If you missed the Chi-Lites on Tuesday, you could usually go to Von King Park and see them on Wednesday. I don't know the reasons for the change but it does appear that Fort Greene park has been eliminated and that usually occurs because of community pressure or because of community disinterest. Is that the case here, who knows? Maybe the City Parks foundation does not have the funding to have it at Fort Greene park any longer. There could be a variety of reasons but the only way to find out answers is to ask questions.
