I must say Piero is pretty awesome. I feel at home with him... not sure how to describe that except saying that he's friendly and welcoming.

Did the shrimp empanadas give me away?
Thanks for the extra round although I really didn't need it! I've become a lightweight. I'll be sure to say hello next time, I promise. -

Went tonight and was going to listen to the live music, but after a couple of pisco sours was ready to head home before the music started. The guys were setting up downstairs just as we were leaving.
From a review standpoint, the service was laid back and friendly, but could have been a tiny bit more attentive (had to ask for water and was hard pressed to get a napkin, which is not good because I'm messy!). But defintely very nice vibe. I liked the atmosphere on the deck and really enjoyed the food. For me, the Jaleita was the best thing I had, but the ceviche was also delicious. I could have had a couple of each! We liked the Papas Rellenas a lot but thought the tamales were just okay.
Overall, liked the experience and really liked the options that the menu offers. The portions are pretty generous so it is easy to fill up on a few dishes without breaking the bank.
Will definitely go back and try to get a later start so I can hear some music. -

Turtle.. I ate upstairs on the deck last night and we were not offered water. the waiter was being run ragged because he kept running downstairs for set ups ( cutlery and napkins) and extra ice and candles. Piero came upstairs during the meal and sat with us but he was busy as we left so I didn't get to point out the obvious... There needs to be extra plates and glasses and cutlery and candles and matches on that upstairs level just to make it easy for the wait staff to give good service. No big deal.. just a little detail.
We just came home and passed by and the music was happening. The doors were open and the music sounded great. -

Veets, I think you're right, if they just had some more service items upstairs, it would be helpful. When we got our first dishes, we didn't have any separate plates to put them on and had to wait for them. Like you said, just one of those details and it will likely be addressed eventually. As long as they have the big stuff like the food worked out, I'll give them a couple of months to work on the small stuff! I hope they got a nice crowd for the music. Next week's jazz should be good.

Went to Aji last night. Had an amazing time. Great drinks, delicious food, and wonderful service. The garden area is beautiful and the live music was good. The owners and the chef all came out to make sure everything was okay and they even gave us a round of sangria on the house for my birthday. It's that kind of special attention that will keep me coming back for more. Hi Piero!

Great that you had a good time Mixergirl...
I heard the music last night too..unfortunately.. since I was not at Aji last night.
I don't mind discussing it here cause I will definitely mention this to Piero...
I live on the same block. Last night the doors were open and the music was loud.. too loud.. I could hear it from the BACK of my house while we sat on the porch. The restaurant is across the street from a large apartment building. The sound coming out of Aji bouces against the building across the street and sends it booming up and down 9th street and probably 8th street as well. Not cool. Like afew other details I am sure that once Piero realizes the problem it will be addressed. -
Depending on how late it is, I never minded the music that carries out of the restaurants and down my block. It's nice.
Maybe it's just me.

trust me on this one.. I live a stones throw away and acustic music is the only way to go if the doors are open at Aji... and no drums even in a jazz combo...
Maybe it's just me.
:?
i am not talking about my "annoyance" here but the reality that the apartment building directly across the street from Aji has no less than 300 tenants...No reason to make a situation of noise complaint happen when it doesn't need to.. that is all I am saying. -
Yum yum yum I went for drinks yesterday and it was great. Piero has the best bartender, she's really amazingly nice and generous.
The passion fruit martini is absolutely delicious. So are the pisco sours.
The never ending supply of homemade corn nuts are addictive.
I'm hooked. -
Does Aji do Sunday brunch? What time do they open? Anyone been? Looking to try someplace new this weekend.
-
Aji does do brunch.. I will check for you and see when it starts.
By the way tonight...JAZZ starts at 7:30 -
Thanks veets.

Oh... and they have a website and you could just give them a call. I haven't had brunch there but from what Piero says brunch is a little more towards American traditional with a little Peruvian twist. The weather will be great this weekend so sit out in the back garden. It is lovely. -
Hope you don't mind if I bump this up
If you are looking for going out on this beautiful evening..
Aji has jazz tonight
The Charles Sibirsky Trio... starting at 7:30 and playing till at least 11pm.
Beautiful night to eat in the garden and have dessert inside and hear some music! -
So my sister will be in town this weekend and I love the cocktails here and those addictive corn nuts! But not sure if the food-stuff has settled down and become consistent.
Has anyone been back for dinner recently and what did you order?
PS.. Piero, call me crazy, but I would love to see those corn nuts sprinkled with salt, a bit of chili powder and a squirt of lime. Mom used to do that with peanuts.. yum yum yum....
