Laundrymat on 5th ave (not that 24 hour thing..)
So I have a personal aversion to dropping off laundry and am looking for a regular, do it yourself deal near my new apartment on 7th st bt 5-6th. I know there's that 24 hour place down on 4th ave but ive heard from two people that its really expensive in comparison to other regular coin laundrys. I've tried googling/yelping/walking around and I don't see a normal coin laundry anywhere in the area- is there one?

Aw girl!!!!!!!!!! You know I loves me some Clean Rite. It is more expensive - $2.75 for a double load but same for dryer- 25 cents for 8 minutes and the dryers are awesome. Worth it. To me.

I don't recall the name of the establishment but between 11th and 10th st on 5th ave next to the Sun BoBo restaurant is where I go. It's worth the trip just to witness the grammatical abortion of a sign they have posted in the back above the dryers. If I figure out how to link pictures I'll put up the shot I took of it a while back.

I'm sure that sign will eventually be submitted to http://www.engrish.com/ , as for that laundromat, that place sucks but they are open later than most places, half their dryers are busted and/or steal quarters. A better place and slightly closer is on 9th street between 5th and 6th, but they're not open so late. -

where is this place on 9th? I thought I had seen one there and when I was walking to ctown the other day i looked for it (half-assedly) and didn't see it but i could have missed it...is it on the ctown side of the street? -
Isen't there a place on 5th avenue around 3ed street?
-
Yes, there's a place (not 24 hours) on 5th Avenue between 3rds & 4th Street

There is one on 5th Avenue between 2nd & 3rd Streets. It's called Kleen Machine. Or maybe they spell it Klean. You get the idea.
It's not coin operated but card operated. You put a $5 deposit on a card and just reload it as you need to. The $5 is returned if you want to return the card... keeps people from getting new cards each time they do laundry.
They also do drop off if you wanted to. They will accept dry cleaning as well. Dry cleaning is sent out to be done.
Let's see if I remember my prices (DISCLAIMER: no guarantee I got this exact but it will give you an idea)...
Small washer $2.19
Medium washer $3.29
HUGE washer $4.99
Dryer $.25/7 min. -

Ok I'm bumping this because the one on 9th st across from c-town totally sucks. Their dryers are a quarter for 6 minutes and they dont even get warm, even on high heat. It cost me over $10 to do two small loads because the dryers were so slow crappy. I've also tried that place down on 3rd which was better, but im not into the deposit for a card thing.
I feel like i passed a place on 6th ave near 10th or 11th streets...or maybe even the other way on 6th ave. Anyone know what I'm talking about? -

There's a coin laundry place on 6th Avenue near 6th or 7th Street I think. I've never been there so I don't know anything about it. -
yeah...... 6th ave and 10th. I pass it all the time. Someone on a thread awhile back said the male owner of that place is super crabby.

Is that place a coin laundry for sure and not a drop-off? I thought for some reason that it was drop-off only... -
uuuuuuuuuuuuum I think I've seen people in there doing their stuff. Only one way to find out!!!!!!!!!

That 6th Ave place is both drop-off and coin. And yes, the owner is really crabby. Enough to make me consider going up to Apple Laundry on 7th Ave at 13th Street even though I live right by the 6th Ave joint. The Apple Laundry folks are really nice.

I went by it last night. I was a little off on my location. It's on 6th Avenue and 5th Street. -
I actually went to the place on 6th ave and 5th st last night. Although small and kind of dirty, it was way cheaper and the dryers were WAY better than the 9th st location. Plus its across from the ale house, so I grabbed a beer while I waited.
Thanks, brooklynian! -
i see that you found a place, but it would nag me forever if i didn't stick up for the 24hr place (on 4th ave--which is the one i have assumed that you were opposed to). It is not particularly expensive ($2 normal load, $3 big load, $4 huge load--there is one larger size but i've never used it), it is very large and bright and super clean, there is rarely a wait for washers or dryers, there is always enough seating, the heat and a/c work, and the guy who runs it is a delight. And they have ms. pacman. Just sayin...

The place on 6 Av & 5 St was immortalized in the popular children's book "Knuffle Bunny," FWIW. I think it changed hands, and the new owner put a new sign/awning on the outside, so it's not exactly as it was, but the interior hasn't changed.
