2600 - magazine/radio/institution - iphone users check this

so. yesterday I found myself in a bookstore and whenever I'm in one (which I try to avoid cause I get all grabby and spendy) I always look for a copy of 2600 magazine. I love this thing. why, you ask?

the current issue has a photo of an actual place in phoenix arizona called, no shit, "hacker financial services". NO JOKE.

this issue also contains articles about ....

how to hack the gps on your iphone so no one can find you and/or how you can hack it to find someone

how to hack the road runner network

how to hack society: holding operations

a basic manual on hping for tcp networks

portable, encrypted linux ... running under windows

changing your mac address

a gazillion letters from hackers stuck in fed pens looking for "pen pals"

my last job was right across the street from the NYC 2600 meeting and I remember being shocked at seeing emmanuel goldstein outside the freakin' 6 train. last time I saw him was at a legal conference about internet security and privacy. as much as the hacking comm is very male dominated and faux-macho (they're all tiny and/or ugly), I have loved this magazine as both a personal and legal resource for years. can't believe I only remember it exists when I'm in a bookstore.

LOL! the blah under the photo is:

"this institution's motto should read: 'be debt free and never have to pay for the credit charges that you make in the future. hacker financial can make it happen.'"
  • does anyone else remember the issue where there was an article about a guy who hacked his entire life? like, no ID, stealing his rent, electricity, gas, water, cable, phone, etc from his neighbors. and then at the end the guy was all "JUST KIDDING"? remember? hilarious. I laughed my ass off on that issue.

oh. and this issue has some walmart trucks with 2600 logos on them, too. sweet.
  • Do you think I'll be put on some govt hotlist if I buy a subscription to 2600?

yeah. I don't own a sub to it b/c I'm a lawyer and I already have a secret service record (long story, best told over boozy bev) and my dad is cuban. it all works out to this totes le annoying shit that govt officials ALWAYS know without me telling them ... shocking. so no sub for me. though I do pay at the bookstore with a credit card. maybe I should just fuck the govt and buy the sub. it's not like they DON'T know.

white castle at atlantic & grand to franklin park to meet the bike riding dorks. so ... midnightish I'm thinking. maybe earlier cause white castle can be slow in producing both chicken rings AND a crave case.
  • While I do want to hear this story, I don't think I want to hear it bad enough to walk to whitecastle at midnight. Perhaps booze sometimes is a better idea, you can tell me properly about your old job too.
