Roomba and pets? Anyone tried?

Is a roomba the vacuum that is preprogrammed or set to vacuum on its own? my friends dog used to viciously attack vacuums- but was pretty good with what I think is known as an "irobot" as well as dustbusters.
The irobot was fairly quiet- which may have helped, though we never did figure out why the dog didn't like the reg hoover (sound wasn't quite the issue- she growled at the mere sight of vacuums)
Caveat- the irobot may be pet friendly- but I've also asked about it's quality and it is mediocre on wood floors... -
I love my roomba! I have two cats and a dog, all of whom used to run like crazy from my upright vacuum. They hardly notice the roomba, and what's more, the thing is darn sturdy. They were curious at first-- now they just ignore it. You will have to clean the brushes a lot, what with pet hair and all, but it's so worth it. My mom bought mine for me when she was in town and we both agree that the major drawback of the thing is the overwhelming temptation to stand around and watch as it works, rather than, say, doing other things. Try it while you're at home to see how your critter reacts. It only does one room at a time, so hopefully your pet will learn to retreat if he's really freaked out. Good luck!

Lucille - are you using it on wood floors, rugs, tiles or all?

I use it primarily on wood floors, but it also does a nice job on my area rug and my faux wood kitchen floor. I'm tellin' ya, the thing is a godsend. In fact, it is right now cleaning my living room and the little area where the cat litter is. Picks it all up, even the fine, fine "World's Best Cat Litter" residue. I have a dust buster for hard to reach spots, but unless you're just totally phobic about dirt, I think it works really well. If anything, it's better on wood floors than on the carpet.

Ok, i want one now....are there different models? can you tell me which one you have?
-
That's awesome! :thumright:
I want one now just because it could be hacked to do as I command.
I guess that means I'm a controller. I like to control things. :-k -
No idea about models, although I could check my box and get back to you. It's in the hallway and I'm lazy. I got mine at Cosco for about $40 less than my mom did at Target or wherever in the midwest. It really is a splendid thing and it comes with a good warranty. With all the pet hair I have in my apartment, and have had now for years, I go through a regular stand up vacuum every couple years. And lord how I love not having to vacuum. The thing goes under my couch. Nough said.

Lucille - I'd love to know what model you have, if you don't mind looking at the box. I went on Amazon and there are so many different types

my friends with a nervous/needy kitty have a roomba. and I'm kinda thinking, given my cleaning skillz, I should acquire one. I'm kinda no good with the whole dirt thing.
