Lia’s Ices don’t know what neighborhood they’re in

You better watch out Filmlover44s daughter works there.
-
As I said in another thread, I do like the Ices there. I just think the owners should know what neighborhood they open a store in.
Which one is Filmlover44’s daughter? -
The one whose going to poison your ice.
-
oh no, the sky is falling.

I think this is fairly significant. Real estate agents have long been stretching the borders of Park Slope, but now it's becoming a part of the popular consciousness. If it goes unchecked, it becomes the truth.
How far in to Windsor Terrace is Lia's Ices? -
PPW &16th st. next to Windsor Liquor
-
ok, true....and this is one of the cases where it can definitely be argued that it's not quite Park Slope, since, from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), the division line would be PPW.. So that would make it a full 100 feet or so from Park Slope. I've seen other cases that are a bit foggier, and this isn't (technically) one.
But still, it's just a name. I, too, think it's dirty of realty companies to be calling Bushwick "Williamsburg", for instance, but they still do it, and those who know better will use their own judgement on whether to move there.
Maybe I'd feel differently if I was born and raised here & felt territorial, but honestly, if the neighborhood I was born & grew up in in Queens was facing the same issue (ha, imagine that), I'm not sure I'd be so very concerned.
Reminds me of a story I heard a while back where people out on Long Island didn't like how Jamaica Avenue was still called that even after it left the shittier parts of Queens and stretched into their nicer neighborhoods. They felt it gave them a bad name, literally. I thought it was kinda funny.

Anything on 9th avenue btwn the circle and the cemetery is clearly Windsor Terrace. But it’s not a big concern to me. I just think it’s funny that these people opened a store here, and had t-shirts made stating what neighborhood they were in, without ever actually bothering to find out what neighborhood they’re in.

By the way, is this place officially called Windsor Liquor now? That’s what people have been calling it since the new management took over, but the sign still says Fields. -
They left the Fields sign up as they were honoring the time remaining on the lease that Fields had when He sold the business and apparantly they didn't want to spend the money for a new but temporary sign,
-
Trust me, 16th Street between PPW and 10th is not Park Slope. Once you pass Oak Park Pharmacy, you're in a whole 'nother world.

or they could know which neighborhood they are in, but chose to use Park Slope because it is more recognizable.
I am a full 2 avenues into windsor terrace but i always tell people that I live in park slope because I don't feel like explaining that windsor terrace is not in new jersey for the 8 millionth time. -
Well instead of saying “I live in Park Slope” you could say “I live near Park Slope”
-

Or you could try the great ices at NYC ICY on Church Avenue where you are definitely not in the slope.
Please park Slopers.....don't encroach into our hood. We left or a reason so don't follow. -
Filmlover44, since your daughter works there can you answer this question? Can your daughter ask the bosses why the shirts say Park Slope?

But who are those shirts meant to be seen by? Customers! People already in Windsor Terrace! It’s not like Lia’s is advertising on TV and telling people in other neighborhoods that they’re in Park Slope. Lia’s is actually telling people already in Windsor Terrace that they’re not in Windsor Terrace.... For years Real Estate agents have been trying to stretch the borders of Park Slope because it’s a more popular name. But now an ice cream store in Windsor Terrace is doing the same thing. Why?

It's no wonder Lia's is confused. Even the MTA doesn't know what the neighborhood is called.
Look at the B69 and B75 buses for example.
Although they both originate at 17th and PPW, the B69 offers claims to offer local service "from Windsor Terrace to Downtown Brooklyn" while the B75 provides "local service from PARK SLOPE to Downtown Bk."
They start (or end, depending on which way you're going) at the same place: 17th and PPW!

Even the bus signs along PPW indicate that "Park Slope" is the final destination. Confusion runs deep on this issue. How annoying. -
truly scandalous
-
Considering the Buses and Trains travel all across the five boroughs, I think it’s more understandable if the MTA get a neighborhood name wrong….. But Lia’s Ices do not travel. They are stationed in one location only. So they should know what that location is….. Terrace Bagels, Windsor Shoes, the Windsor Cafes, and the upcoming Windsor Liquors all know where they are.

Wow...sounds like Yankeefan either owns or works for NYC ICY..Which by the way are average at best.Alot of anger towards a NEW Business in/or around Park Slope..Now from what Ive been told, there is a new owner of Lias Ices since June,09 and has brought in home made ices and Gelato..Both are above average the Gelato being a tad better.Lias I dont care if you say youre located in Guam, just keep giving me FERRERO ROCHER Gelato..Yankeefan I would get used to them being there. With their product I would guess they will be there for a long time..
-
Well, I mean they are only 100 feet away from Park Slope...it is not like they are 10 blocks away...doesn't seem like a huge deal.
BTW we rented a place two doors down from Lia's and our real estate agent told us that this area "Is now Park Slope."
We were like, huh? We specifically wanted to live in Windsor Terrace.....
But seriously, when people ask me where I live I say on the border of Park Slope and Windsor Terrace because it kind of feels neither here nor there. -
I think it's kind of funny that their shirts say Park Slope. I agree with Yankee Fan that only the custies see the shirts and they probably know where they really are. If it's under new management, maybe the new owner doesn't know where the neighborhood line is. All in all, sounds mostly harmless considering all the Windsor-this and Windsor-that in the immediate vicinity. After all, it's just T-Shirts, not a full name change, it may even be corrected on the next version, who knows.
As for real-estate agents changing things, I don't like that one bit. When I first moved to NYC I needed someplace cheap, so I rented a basement in Bushwick. I was fully aware it was a bad and dangerous neighborhood and I lived a good way into it. Meanwhile, real-estate agents have been renting Bushwick/Williamsburg-border apartments as 'East Williamsburg' and young people and hipsters alike started filling the vacancies. After living where I lived (a few stops past the "E.W." area, and off the J, not the L,) for a little over a year, I started to see more and more hipsters appearing, but it became apparent that they had no idea that this Bushwick was different from the Bushwick they thought they were moving too. I saw a lot more aggression and a lot more cabs after dark because people were afraid to walk from the train to their door.
I understand that if Park Slope creeps into Windsor Terrace it won't increase muggings and put people in danger the same way, but it changes other things too. My girlfriend and I had no desire to move to Park Slope. Too expensive for us among other things. Here we found (by word of mouth from someone who lived here) exactly what we wanted in a neighborhood and without the price-bumb that comes automatically when you say 'Park Slope'.
probably a bit too long of a rant for my second(?) post, but what jschneier said about the real estate agent saying this is Park Slope now got me fired up. -

can you please name the real estate and the agent who told you that. i know many real estate agents are always trying to stretch the borders of park slope. this time we have an ice cream store in windsor terrace that is either trying to help the real estates stretch the borders or has been fooled by the real estates and really think they are in park slope
We were like, huh? We specifically wanted to live in Windsor Terrace..... -
Hello to all I am the new owner of Lia's Ices...Yankeesfan,let it go brother, we are 100 FEET away from the border and the old owner was mis-informed about where the dividing line starts and stops. I could see if we were down on seeley and prospect ave., than you would have a gripe but really now..a little too much time on your hands to dwell over this..But now that the new shirts dont say Park Slope maybe you'll sleep better at night..So for those of you that read this come on down and enjoy home made Italian Ice and Gelato as well as many other Delicious additions to our menu...
-
Bravo to your reply Lia's. Yankee Fan has beaten this topic about borders to death. Check the prevailing theme in his post history. Enough already.
-
Lia's, I don't care which nabe you're in: your products are WONDERFUL. thank you
-
Hello again....Starting Oct. 1st we will be serving home made soups and a few different salads as well as a small menu of Gelatos and Ices.....Thank you all for you patronage....
-
My only beef with Lia's is that I have to pass by it every day and I fear for my waistline!
Howdy, Stranger!
