Moving to Park Slope from Chicago - advice?

Ok ... it's a tough one. But let's hear what Paul Auster thinks (or was saying in 1999):

Seriously, this is stuff you'll start to take for granted once you move here: "You mean they DON'T call you to let you know they're outside?"

I use International Car Service on Washington, and they DON'T give you a call, but the trade-off is that you usually get a car in less than 5 minutes. When you call, the dispatcher tells you specifically how many minutes she thinks it will be: 3 minutes. 4 minutes. And so on. One time, before hanging up, she said, "OK, your car is outside." I thought she was exaggerating, but I walked out to get the mail, and the car was sitting there waiting for me!
