The co-op again

And I thought I was the only person who has had several bad experiences at the Park Slope Food Co-op.....

I know it's a total cliche to respond and say, "well, you know, I've had lots of good experiences there!"...

...but that's what I am going to do. I have a good friend who quit a few weeks in because they were badgering her about her dues, so I went in with some trepidation (the RULES! the NAZIS! the DUES! the SHIFTS!). But I have never had a problem with anyone there--the office was a little incompetent, but my workshift has been pleasant, my supervisor nice, my co-workers/shoppers polite and helpful and friendly...the food's fresh and cheap as hell.

I think, actually, that the coop's proportion of awful people is below that of normal supermarkets. But maybe I've just been lucky.

Subject: Oy Vey!

If you're going to complain about the co-op and such, the big question needs to be asked.

Who cares? Just don't join.

I've had more difficulties in opening a Washington Mutual account than I have ever had at the food co-op. Ditto with assinine UPS problems I had with a substitute driver; lord bless my regular driver who is awesome!

I think part of the problem is that people think that the co-op is a perfect palacial evironment. It's not. It's simply an alternative. For some people the concept works. For others it doesn't. And in general if you are the type of person who won't speak up if they notice a problem--or have an improvement--you'll be 100% miserable.

All the times I've had issues with things I've talked to whoever I needed to talk to and things were explained. It's not difficult.

If you're the kind of person who thinks its just a supermarket with cheaper organic food, don't join. If you get the whole idea of the place being made for all, then join.

Also, the office is chaotic. But not really worse than any other office I've ever been into. But the general meetings. Never attended one, but it seems that they are overrun by the true power-hungry types who have enough free time to make an 'impact' on things. The regular members are fine. If they all got along I'd be afraid that people would consider it a cult.
