Aircard followup- a review...

I posted a few weeks ago asking for people's experienced with aircards (at least I think I did...) and I finally took the plunge and got an AT&T model that connects to the 3G network and I absolutely love it. It is every bit as fast as my previous DSL and is almost as fast as wireless broadband. The setup was super easy and it's about $60 a mo unlimited. I've been using it as my only source of net for a few days and it's working swimmingly and hasn't booted me once. I can even dl torrents at a pretty decent speed. Highly recommended to anyone who's considering going that route.

  • I'd be REAL careful with at&t. Make sure you have the plan they say you do, you think you do. Check your usage and balance very very often till you get settled in.
I am currency trying to help a friend try to resolve an issue win them. He was supposed t have the unlmited plan on his lil brothers iPhone. Turns out even though heconfirmed all in att store after a month he got a bill for over $4,000 for one month of data. This was in May. The service was allegedly suspended for investigation, yet he received a bill for over $13,000 two weeks ago.
So check check and double check you online statement. My investigations havefound this is a common issue.
  • I loved my AT&T card and used it in a lot of places - NH, Balt, Dallas, etc.

That said, the bill went to my employer, so I don't know about the plan or any billing issues
  • I've heard great things about the at&t wireless card. I've also heard f'd things about at&t's billing w/r/t the iphone. so ... I guess, yeah? just watch the bill and see how it goes. but thanks for the review. right now I'm being an ass and stealing someone's wireless cause my wireless is down and I refuse to clean off my desk, fix my computer, and resolve the situation.
