Clover Club — Brooklynian

Clover Club

Being some one who drinks a lot and who has been to most of the Cocktail lounges in the city and in Bk, the Clover was a pleasant surprise. Not only was it spacious and well lit, but extremely organized, front of the house impeccable. The Bartenders not only know what they are doing and for a the quality of the cocktails that they are making and the type of work that goes into them i have to say they are the speediest Bartenders in any cocktail lounge in BK. Not like the other lounges where it takes 25 minutes to get a drink. They treated me extremely well and even bought me 2 drinks on the house. I am def going back.

That place is a blight on Smith Street. Yeah, we know gentrification unfortunately ends up with crap like this, but can you people frequenting it please go back to midtown or something?
  • rut roh. she said "you people"
  • Hannah i bet you are part of the gentrification i have lived in Bk 24 of my 31 years of life. Maybe you just like frequenting shitty places and there is Nothing wrong with that!
  • Go take a good look at the people inside and directly outside the bar. Sorry, but they're the reason you avoid going out in many areas of Manhattan.
  • Have you actually been in the place, have you ever tasted a cocktail of that quality on Smith ? I don´t avoid anything, i pretty much go out all over the city, seems like you are stuck at Hanks at all times.
  • Seriously Hannah...there are plenty of shit dives to go to (which I like also)...why you hating on Clover?

Sure their drinks might be overpriced and needing a bit more booze but the owners and bartenders attention to detail is spot on.
  • Wow. That kind of animosity after only 8 posts?
  • "have you ever tasted a cocktail of that quality on Smith ?"

You couldn't make that comment up...
  • Well i just did sucker!!
I guess hanks has better options, maybe i should try their puke and piss and whiskey fizz!!
  • Hold it! Hannah Smith is totally off her rocker, but let's not mix her/his bile with the great local establishment that is Hanks. I love Hanks! They pour a mean wiskey soda and the coldest Schaefer ! :D The bartenders there are super nice and they have free BBQ every week with tons of the best rockabilly, blues and country bands playing there practically every night!

That said, I also want to go to Clover now, where is it located again?
  • Last night i went to see Batman on the way decided to Grab a drink and some food and since it is only a block away from the theater it was an easy choice.
My choice of drink as usual was The Last Word, then ordered the beet and goat cheese salad, the shrimp caviar bruschetta, deviled eggs and to finish it off the steak sandwhich. The beet salad was just so right on the spot, the beet was layered with water cress and Arugula ,the beet juice really did a great job with the goat cheese on the bottom for a tasty surprise, i wanted to lick my plate. The shrimp caviar was tasty and refreshing. The deviled eggs were ok but i like the ones at Barrette better, the steak sandwhich was not so good, ordered medium rare and it just came out chewy, i was not really into it,by the time i was done with all that food and the drink it was time to go back to the theater. As usual the bartender always greet me and always make me feel welcomed and i enjoy our dorky booze conversations.
PS by the way i do not have anything against divebars, The Smith person is obviously a bitter person.Miss you E!!!

    Will always go back !
  • I'm with the haters. This place doesn't seem to get the neighborhood vibe at all. I knew it the second I saw the bouncer with the earpiece. And the trip-hop music isn't helping.

  • Its all hate from you guys, go inhave a Last Word or an Añejo Old Fashioned and i bet you will not be a hater!
  • Over the top comments aside, the sad thing about this place is it just doesn't fit the tone of the neighborhood. That's not to say that people in the area don't want to drink cocktails or have the option to drink cocktails - just not in a place as horrendously Bridge and Tunnel or midtown as this one. Walk past on a Friday night and see the idiots in suits and bouncer - it's horrid.

It's sad that the character of Smith Street is changing: the row of stores around Refinery looks to have been bought out (by a large brand? Seems like they've snapped up four or five stores next to each other). The last thing the area needs is to turn into a strip of cookie cutter big brand stores (Lucky Jeans and Urban Outfitters are bad enough as it is) - that's not what people adore the area for. You can get those places anywhere else in Manhattan - but some of the gems in the area are/were unique to Smith Street.
  • I can tell Hannah Smith has never been in this bar by her comments. You should try it, Hannah. I think you might change your (negative) tune.

P.S. It's just won a Time Out award for best new neighborhood bar or something. I definitely give it a thumbs up and it isn't B&T - it's has a different vibe than Flatiron Lounge in Manhattan (owned by the same woman) and is definitely very new school Brooklyn (with old school Brooklynite Italian men there mixing with the "yuppies").
