True story:

I once had a summer job in the phone bank calling people for the alumni funding drive at the University of Connecticut. (Don't hate me. I was young and needed the money.)

One of my co-workers once got a response during one of his calls that made him give up instantly and hang up -- the woman he'd called told him that she couldn't give anything to the drive because "I've just taken a vow of poverty."

The rest of us agreed that, yeah, you....really can't say anything else after that point.

I had an ex-fiance answer a wrong number with, "There's no Maxine here! Maxine's dead!"

Hilarious, but I've never had the balls to do something like this myself. I mean, what if the caller was a member of Maxine's family?

But with telemarketers, punish at will. I even say that having done some telemarketing in my distant past. The problem is, most telemarketing calls nowadays seem to done by computers, negating any fun you may have playing with heads.

I ask them for their home phone numbers so I can call them back. I also ask them what time they eat so I can call at dinner time.
