car service drivers never having change
do they think that, if they don't have change for the $10, i'll just give them the $10 on the $7 fare? because that ain't happening.
happened to me with a $20 today, and i was feeling sick so i went into royal deli and bought cat litter and came back out and paid the guy. i know, i'm an idiot.
any good ways to handle this?

stand firm. let THEM run into a store and get change to break your bill if they aren't prepared. If we're talking $50 or $100 bills, then you should help break change or notify them before getting in the car.....but they should be able to do $10 or $20 no problem
I dunno. Where's Idlewild? Former driver can probably give you some scoop -
When you call for a car tell the dispatcher to send a driver who change a $10 or $20.
-
smart! thank you

Yep, I've done that but usually only if I have $50 or larger. I expect them to be able to breaks $10s or $20s -
They probably can , but will try to hustle the passenger for a $3.00 tip

I make all drivers pass me back the change before I hand over any cash. If they do not give me the change I request, they do not get paid. So far I have not had any problems with drivers not passing back change.

This is really only a problem if you don't have a cat. -

This has never happened to me.

Ask Potter for her car services number , there's no reason why she should have all the fun. -
it's arecibo, but i've had it happen with evelyn and 7th ave
-
Never happened to me either.
Not that I think this is solution to the problem you present because I know this change scam or inconvenience happens but the only car services I use are Continental or if I am on other side of the park (yes there is Brooklyn on that side , too) I use New Mexicana. -

I am not surprised. A week ago I called Arecibo and told the dispatcher to send a car with a credit card machine. Of course the driver who gets me lacks a credit card machine. I was like "fine, I will pay you all the cash I have since I told the dispatcher I needed a credit card machine and the dispatcher told me that this ride could be paid by credit cards." They screwed up, so a $10 ride (tip not included) ended up costing me $6.
Rules for dealing with Arecibo
-Plan on 1 out of 8 cars that you request to never appear.
-Plan on Arecibo on not picking up their phone on bad weather days during rush hour, especially in cold months.
-Always get your quote via phone from the dispatcher.
-Never discuss the ultimate fare with the driver.
-Carry lots of $1 bills.
-Do not pay the driver if they refuse to give you change. In the worse case scenario, you can deliver the payment to the dispatcher in person while filing a complaint about the driver.
-Remember that you are the client and that Arecibo is the service provider. It is the job of Arecibo to keep you happy, not the other way around. -
I see this happen a lot and I think it's so they get a bigger tip. same thing happens with me and I am just talking 10s and 20s. so, what I do now is tell the dispatcher on the phone when I first place the call to make sure the driver has change for whatever bill I have.

i usually stand my ground and they somehow find change. but i was sick yesterday and woozy and not thinking clearly

any tips on who DOES pick up the phone (and maybe even have cars) on nasty days?

it's always the days i'm finally willing to shell out for a car that i end up having to walk. -
to be fair to drivers
. i carry minimum cash just in case we got robbed. and i expect clients to bring exact amounts in cash(checks bounce alot)
i bring little to nothing during the first job of the day(this way by the end of the day have change from clients) -
armchair, i'm not talking about movers.

wow just talk to one of my working class friends, who's relative does this for a living. he told me they do this all the time to hustle money off you rich folks
.
sounds very unethical.
