Car Services with nice cars?
I use two car services, don't know the names, just have them programmed into my phone as car service 1 and car service 2.
Both are pretty good and pretty cheap but have pretty crappy cars, which is usually just fine for me. They're also generally on time.
My parents were here this week for my engagement party (yes thanks, I'm registered at macy's and pottery barn, send gifts (jk)) and to get them back to the airport, I called car service 1, but it occurred to me they'd send a crappy, junky car. I wanted something nicer for my parents who never take car services.
Anyone have any suggestions? All I'm looking for is a nice, clean, black car that does not have weird warning beeps when we're driving, has shocks/struts that work and won't cause the passengers to feel like they just stepped off the cyclone. I don't need Alfred in a tux & white gloves, just something in between that and a car with gum on the seats ;-)
Thanks :-)

Try Northside - 718 387 2222. Every time I've used them, they've sent a nice car (usually a nice, relatively new black sedan....I think once, they sent a fancy beige SUV of some stripe). Also, the drivers are super-nice and they seem to be magically able to reach any pickup address in 5 minutes.
Congratulations on your engagement! -
i've had good experiences with eastern (http://www.easterncarservice.com) but i only ever used it to go between park slope and crown heights or bushwick.
for a nice ride from the airport i think we usually use dial7 (http://www.dial7.com) since that's their specialty. -
i 2nd dial7 for a slightly classier ride, albeit sans haughty accent and grey poupon
-
thanks, I've programmed Nothside in now (replaced car servce 2 which I accidently deleted, oh well) and I'll program in the 7s too.
-
I always use Legends 718-788-1234, mostly because theirs is the only (local) number I can remember.
Never had a bad ride from them - always a nice limo, and once they even sent a Benz. -
Be warned - Dial 7 charges a much higher rate to go from Brooklyn to the airport than from Manhattan (even though we're closer!). I think I was quoted over $60 to JFK when I tried them.

Holy Mackerel.
Good tip, thanks. -
Yep, just did a faux online reservation from my address in Brooklyn - $62 without tips or tolls (shouldn't be tolls from here, but still...)
-
I've only used Empire for 1 round trip so far (to/from JFK, at that), but they sent very nice cars both times.
And congratulations.

Congrats on your engagement!
I really like XYZ Car Service. They are more a corporate car service but they upgrade their Lincoln's every 4 years, the drivers are really nice and they have cell phones and GPS in every car. You can pay by credit card or open an account. They have dispatchers at most of the airports so you get a car right away. The drivers are all part owner of the company so they have a lot at stake in their service. We have used them for over 20 years at my office and never had a complaint.
Their number is 718-768-7333

i've had pretty good experiences with northside. with eastern, mixed. i've never used either to/from the airport.
when my parents visit, i call dial 7 for them. much nicer and very dependable. -
Yeah, actually the company I work for uses XYZ, too. Good service, nice cars.

Subject: Aricebo
Hey there,
I have used Aricebo in PS quite often. They tend to have nice cars. I am pretty sure that you could even ask for the best and they would send it. -
Eastern usually sends something decent -- not necessarily the newest cars, but clean and in reasonably good shape. When my mom visited for Xmas and was heading to Penn Station to go back upstate, they sent her a nice brand-new Town Car.

I've had nice cars with Continental.
-
Eastern.... If you ask for nice cars they will send them.

Stacey, just so you know... i was a VIP member with XYZ (man thats alot of acronyms) until I noticed that the charges on the receipts I was getting was not what was being billed to my card. They apply taxes after, and tax the tip given to the driver. (which according to the taxi &limo commission is illegal). The difference in some charges to the airport were as much as $8. No joke. In terms of people using credit cards for work or something, those receipts are your record for reimbursement.

I now use Carmel and they are both cheaper and the price on the receipt is what they charge. The "flat rate" has the taxes included. So the tip goes just to the driver... no skimming. This was also the case for all the other various car services I have used cards with (dial7, big apple, etc.)
So I definitely recommend people watching their receipts with XYZ. And if they are being mischarged, file a complaint with TLC. -

And I wouldn't expect them to know where they are going either. -

Eastern has both good and bad cars but they are local and know where they are going. If it were me I'd call Eastern and tell the dispatcher that it's my parents and could they please send a nice Town Car.
Yea, Dial 7 (formerly Tel Aviv) usually always has Town Cars but not always and I wouldn't use them for any other trip than from Manhatan to or from the airport.
I always call the service that is local to where I'm going. When we lived in the city I'd call Eastern to come to Brooklyn. Coming fromthe airport I call Eastern from the plane when we land and they usually can get a car to me if not by the time I get to the curb shortly there after -
Maybe call a NYC yellow cab or only take buses?
Most of Areceibo's cars are OK, Continental's are mostly so-so, but it's all such a gamble. Ive sat on some nasty, dirty seats from pretty much every local car service.
When it comes to transportation, the buses are have the cleanest seats, the subways the dirtiest, and the cars are all in between.
Howdy, Stranger!
