The Wire...no spoilers, please — Brooklynian

The Wire...no spoilers, please

So, I've watched Season 1, disc 1 and 2

I already have a crush on McNulty

I am not into Kima's acting

Don't tell me what happens (or I will hunt you down and sing to you), but I like it.

Thanks to everybody who convinced me to watch it

  • The Wire is hands down the greatest show ever to grace a TV screen. You will love Season 3.
  • You're welcome Flexi! Welcome to the dirty dirty world of the Wire.... :afro:
  • two more discs from season 1 shipping out today. yay!
  • I started with one episode a week, and then slid to watching a few episodes a day. Season 1 is a gateway drug.

Kima is one of my favorite characters, but agree that you can hear "acting" ever now and again, but even worse is the DA.

The whole cast is amazing. I am 4 episodes into season 4 and hope to be done before season 5 is released on netflix in august.

my poor husband is a Wire Widower.

PS: did i mention i saw prez at Ikea. I felt like I wanted to hug him!
  • flexi - the wire only gets better and better. after you finish it, it's like, "what am i ever going to watch again?" b/c it's just so amazing.

plus - btw me & my roommates, we've seen a handful of wire characters around nyc !

one actor from the wire even works at the co-op, has anyone else seen this actor working there?
  • what's cool too is that so many people in this cast were also in Oz, the other great HBO series, and 98% of the Oz people are now on Law and Order, where a ton of Wire folks appear too, like Omar (the great)

which character? I might join just to see!

    god, I need a life.
  • I like the fat, bald cop. you know, the wise ass? I forget his name, but he needs to be my boyfriend STAT.
  • OMG, herc. Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhh.....le sigh. le pant.
  • Heehee....you love the Herc?

I'm on Season 2, episode 2. I wasn't sure I was liking this harbor/dock story line, but I saw McNulty's ass, and now all is right in the world again :-)
  • Yea, I like 'em big and mean. I'm old-fashioned like that.

Wait till you get to season 3! I just finished it and I've been watching the extra bonus stuff. They've got David Simon, the main writers, producers, the Commisioner, Stringer Bell, and Marlo. Stringer Bell is actually from England- fucking WAIT till you hear his accent! So. Hot.

Cutty. I've worked with him. He's a cool guy. In fact a lot of the cast either lived in Prospect Heights/Park Slope or live in here. I know Kimi lived on Park or Prospect Place, Marlo lives around here as well as Cutty. It's a Wire/Law and Order neighborhood.
  • I don't think I know who Cutty is ...which season?

    Kimi or Kima?

    So confuddled!

Watching an episode right now (season 2, episode 4)
  • hmmm...seems like Marlo and Cutty don't come in until Season 3.
  • My roommate met Gbenga Akinabe (Chris Partlow on the show, he shows up in Season 3 and has a big role in 4 and 5) on the subway a few months ago. Really nice guy from what I heard. I think Michael K. Williams (Omar) is from Crown Heights originally too but I could be wrong.

Amazing show the and I consider the best thing ever made in film or television. Season 4 though to me is the absolute pinnacle.
  • I am in the midst of season 4. I haven't watched the the bonus material b/c i didn't want to break the spell. Should I? So is Stringer Bell British?
  • Stringer Bell and McNulty from The Wire, and Addibese and Kareem Said from Oz are all Brits
