have any of you used Alba products?
I met someone with similar skin who swears by their products but I wanted more opinions. She claimed most stuff she's tried (face lotions/sunscreens) make her break out but the Alba sunblock doesn't. -
i only use alba shave cream and i'm pretty happy with it.
for facial sunblock i use neutrogena healthy skin spf 30. during the summer when it's more humid i use mario badescu oil-free moisturizer with spf 17 - feels a lot less greasy.
and i love juara rice facial scrub once a week - it's really gentle and a little goes a long way! -
am digging this Neutrogenea scar removal salycidic acid thing. i have an old red-ish/purple-ish mark on my chin (from major pimple digging on that spot a few years ago) and it seems to be working well on it 2 weeks in

should i feel guilty? im female and i dont have any make up stuff (unless if deodorant counts).
Em26 wrote: How about shampoo?
i love pantene, and no other conditioner works for me except pantene. i had to use it when i had long hair, or else i cant comb my hair. but i dont need any right now as i just shaved my head bold few months ago, and until now my hair is still kinda short. sometimes i just use soap bar as my shampoo (for now before my hair gets longer). -
should you feel guilty? I think *I* should feel guilty for how much shit I DO have.
that said, no makeup? none? that's just wrong :-) -
I'm currently obsessed with Sephora. There's this mascara by Cargo called TexasLash that makes my eyelashes, seriously!, 3x's there length and thickness! It's almost too much, almost

well, nothing for face. a lot of people have been trying to get me wear make up, but it's wasting too much time. i do have body lotion if that counts, something that i picked up from pharmacy that i cant remember the brand, and couple of body splash perfume thing for emergency in case i have to rush out without taking shower, lol.
when i was younger, my mom bought me something fancy to wash face, i used it only 2 times, and decided it was too much hassle and i gave it to my brother instead. i guess im lucky i dont have skin or acne problem, hardly get any pimples. -

Are you just one of those incredibly lucky girls- skinny, beautiful skin, gorgeous face? You shaved your head cause you're just THAT beautiful? You know, the kind the rest of us hate? Kinda? Till we get to know ya? -
omg, FAR from it, lol.

i consider shaving your head is one of the things you have to do at least once before you leave this world. like sky diving

Uh, have yet to put head shaving on my "before I die" list....but maybe I should. When I don't care anymore. lol.

Things I need to do once in my life:
- orgy
- Seychelles (islands)
- Vegas wedding
Things I don't need to do once in my life -
- Shave head. -
I have sensitive skin and hair, so I can't get away with using the the stuff that has sh*t like Sodium Laurel Sulfates.
Body Wash/ Face Soap - Most anything HEMP is the best. Castile soap (like Dr. Bronners) is my favorite. Desert Essence also makes some.
Hair - I use Giovanni and Burts Bees. But the best way to keep the hair looking good is real body art quality Henna. Of course, I like it a little lighter red, so I do negate some of the benefits by lightening it first. If you don't want the red, there is always Cassia Obovata.
Eyes - This is the only place I use the cheap-o stuff. L'oreal Voluminous mascara and Almay eyeliner.
Foundation - Lily Lolo (UK brand) is a really good mineral foundation. Any of the mineral foundations that are solely comprised of Mica, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, and Ultramarine Blue are safe. Watch out for ones with other ingredients if you break out easily.
Blemishes - Desert Essence makes a great dab-on blemish touch stick. Its got Tea tree, Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme, Birch, Petitgrain, Chamomile, and Calendula. Works well on mosquito bites too! Also, their tea tree cleansing pads are good. -

What's worse is I buy all this shit, but I'm too lazy to put it on unless I'm going out to a bar or something like that.

Oh, that's me too. Ask me how much makeup I am wearing right now.

(*snort*) This is SO me. Dropped an indecent amount of $$ at Sephora last week and most of the products are still in their packaging. My summer makeup consists of Cornsilk powder to blot shine, a coat of mascara, lip gloss and go. So why oh why did I buy eye pencils and brow gel..
Speaking of mascara, Fiberwig is it if you want lashes so long, they look fake. It doesn't provide any volume, just length, so unless your lashes are naturally thick you might want a coat of any voluminizing mascara first. It's also smudgeproof and rinses off with water into little crumbles that don't leave dark smears under your eyes. Great stuff. -
I've heard of Fiberwig and was "thisclose" to going to Sephora this afternoon to buy it, but atlked myself out of it
-
The absolute BEST pimple-zapping stuff is called "Solar Energy" drying lotion... it works wonders. Its basically sulphur and dead sea minerals and it dries those nasty things up overnight.
I'm a Sephora addict too (becoming a member of their free "insiders" club is really dangerous, cause every $100 you spend, which is all too easy to do there, you get a free sample product... and some of those samples are really tempting)... there's one about 5 minutes from my office, which I discovered 4 months ago and it was very dangerous!
My skin is really sensitive, so I use Philosophy cleaning products and moisturizer and eye cream (love it all!) and Bare Essentials makeup, mostly to conceal blemishes/dark circles. I love Benefit Benetint for lips/cheek stain... that stuff is great! (of course I am dark eye/haired with olive skin, it might be too harsh on a fairer person)
Hair I alternate between Philosophy (great in winter because the shampoo is anti-static) and Aveda... love the smell!
I keep seeing ads for Fiberwig in the subway... its my rule never to buy things I see in the subway, but I might just have to try it! -
where do you get this "solar energy" stuff? I have one of those sulfur things and it stinks like eggs
-
Fiberwig=$22! oUCH....shit betta be good.
-
I get solar energy from the place I get facials - Ettia Spa on West 72nd Street. (I wouldn't go anywhere else in the city for facials or massage after going there). This stuff smells a *little* bit, but more like menthol than sulfur
-
Whatchuwant wrote: Fiberwig=$22! oUCH....shit betta be good.
Yikes! I'm still intrigued though. Is it one of those two coat mascaras with the little white fibers you put on first? -
We need some before/after Fiberwig pictures....or it doesn't exist ;-)
-
the best zit zapper is the mario baudescu stuff he's famous for. you like dot it on and leave it over night. pimple is like GONE.
right now I'm needing to switch over to cheaper products as I run out of things. I need a good rec for perfume (that isn't demeter) - currently I use jo malone pomegrante noir but it costs like $90/bottle and I kinda can't afford that anymore. -
what type of scents do you like? I don't often wear perfume, but I wear some stuff from L'Occitane that I love (right now I'm into the verbena spray) and they're not crazy expensive.
-
I don't like sweet scents. spicy + citrus is more my speed. so sandalwood and orange, or cedar and lemon, etc. I'd wear patchouli but I'd be mocked constantly.
-
oh. and I layer the perfume with burt's bees deodorant because I can't deal with any deo that I can't spray on and/or has aluminum in it so it needs to have a relatively strong scent and staying power. the demeter scents don't have the staying power.
-
check out the verbena...it's lemon-y/citrus-y and you can get eau de toilette for $17 (or a travel one for $9)

AFN, this "solar energy" stuff is like the Badeusco, but I swear it works much better (plus you apply it right out of the bottle with your finger, and you can actually shake it, which I find very bizarre with the MB stuff.
As for perfume, I generally wear Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nile, which isn't $90 a bottle but probably isn't cheap either... but it is very citrusy and not flowery at all (its actually marketed as unisex)... and I second verbena as a scent, though I don't know the L'occitane stuff.
I have a serious problem with deodorants - well, trying to find one, at least. I had used Dove for years with no problems but about a year ago I started developing a terrible itch/rash and had to stop. I tried something from Trader Joes that didn't work, and then was recommended Almay, which is hypo-allergenic and uses a different kind of alluminum salt... that worked for a while (actually, the stuff works great and is unscented), but recently I've started itching again, so I'm a bit at a loss... any suggestions?
