hey.. hey! I trust "nancy"s opinion!

Here's where I say give these people a break ... this IS the "classified" section after all ... so I think they should be able to have their say here and not be anti-spammed (or flamed, or whatever) ... I agree that they should NOT be spamming the other boards ... but what's this section for if not to promote local goods and services ... ?
[I am writing entirely in principle here ... I have NO idea who these people are] -
flute, it is just becasue they did ALREADY spam ALL the other boards... that's most likely the reason for any uproar.
-
I understand that. I just think this (the classified section) is a legitimate place for them to advertise, assuming of course they are not abusive in any way (which I don't believe they have been ... here).
Benefit of the doubt kind of thing. They were reprimanded for their other posts ... hopefully they learned from that. Calls to boycot a new small business seem a bit excessive to me.
Joy to the world ... peace on earth ... ho ho ho ... all that stuff ... plus free advertising in the DH classified section ... yeah.
 -

Exactly. And self-promotion under the guise of anonymous "guests" is another reason to stay away. It's just sleazy behavior all around. You're welcome to shop there, but I certainly don't want to patronize a place like that. -

That's your perogative ... But merely the fact that they failed "Netiquette 101" is still no reason to call for people to "boycot" the store ... That's all I'm sayin' ... -

If they went to some other forum (a church or PTA group, for example) to promote themselves and failed to observe basic elements of respect for the people there, I think you'd see a similar reaction. If a coffee shop was nice enough to put up a community bulletin board for local businesses to promote themselves, and someone went in and not only put up posters, but started covering other people's posters with theirs, as well as putting up posters over the windows and the walls, you might also see a similar reaction. -

True, but they originally posted this elsewhere and I moved it, so they don't get any points in my book for using the classified section. -

I really hate to drag this out any further. But I just have to say that I absolutely and COMPLETELY understand what you're saying. And I'm certainly not saying "shop at Chani's" ... I'm just saying that what they did does not deserve such an extreme measure as a "boycot." That's it. That's all. Nothing more.
As a person who runs a small business and who has made a mistake or two (or more) and has very often had to pay a price far in excess of my offense(s), I am highly (perhaps overly) sensitive to this. It's very easy for people who can count on a paycheck every week and who not have to worry about paying office rent, payroll, quarterly taxes, etc., to be so inordinately harsh. (And yes, I know, lots of people here work for themselves or have small business ... )
Again, the Chani people did something stupid, they left a very bad impression in a lot of people's minds, and they were reprimanded. They've lost a lot of potential customers here by that alone. So the system worked in the end. Let's not take it too far.
