I would marry Dr. Wen....UPDATE

:D While I know Moo is not cured and he will not be with us for as long as I would like (though I still do not accept it) the Chinese herbs are working. I know it seems like it is too soon to tell but my husband and I cautiously dicussed this with each other. And it was confirmed we both noticed the changes. Most likely the affects Moo is most feeling are the pain relievers. Unlike what the traditional vet could give us (I am not discounting them at all) it is not a morphine derivative and Moo is not a zombie. In fact he has been jumping a little more, wanting to be touched and taking an interest in his surroundings. And while is still apparent that he is sick (I hate that) he is less miserable. He fights me on the pill taking (which is good and bad--at least he has some fight left in him). He is eating a bit more (I finally found a food he would eat--why so difficult Moo) so at least right now he seems a happier cat as the cancer eats away at him. If Dr. Wen wasn't married and if I was not married I would seriously consider asking him. He has given me what I kind of wanted--and cat who could enjoy his last days.

  • aw.......I'm glad Moo has a bit of spunk left in him and doesn't seem to be in too much pain.

btw, before Phantom died (when her original vet failed to realize she was so sick) I managed to get her to eat by warming up her moist food for a few (very few) seconds in the microwave. Hot food smells more fragrant.

Also, you can try putting some chicken or fish broth (use bullion cubes) on the food to make it more tasty....or clam juice.
  • Thanks Flexichick. It appears that Moo only wanted to eat liver (cause he is anemic from the cancer). And he only likes food with gravy. Silly me. I was buying him reallye expensive cans of wet food and he likes cheap Meowmix, as long as Mom picks out the liver bits individually. That he will eat like it is going out of style. He was always picky. But I think he is milking it (just kidding).
  • We just had our 1 week appt. with Dr. Wen. The good news is Moo has not gotten any worse!! He is not better, but he is not worse which is wonderful news. He did not gain any weight, but we are going to increase his appetite stimulant and see if that helps. We sent our other boy (Izzy) there today as well for his urniary crystals and hopefully when we go back in two weeks we have positive news for both of them.
  • Glad Moo isn't getting worse.

I missed something on the way...where does Dr. Wen practice? Did you propose to him yet? ;-)
  • Dr. Wen has his practice in Spoenk NY (the hamptons). And hubby went there by himself today, so no I did not propose. It takes over 1 hour to get there, but so far it is worth it!
  • Hi Pammys, just wanted to drop a line of support. What a good mom you are to make Moo so comfortable through this. I remember when my old girl went thru her last days (which by the way, turned to last YEARS, kidney failure, but she refused to make it easy on us and accept her fate without fighting it with every cell in her body.)

Your comment about the expensive food made me laugh because she did the exact same thing! wet whiskas (98% ash, 2% sawdust). then at the very end all she would eat was bites from my plate, ONLY chicken wings and White Castle hamburgers. I can't even smell either of them now without thinking of her.

Be happy and enjoy your baby. we should all have someone who loves us enough to pick out pieces of our favorite catfood in our last days.
  • pammys, i am glad your moo is doing relatively well with the supplements.

would you mind telling me exactly what herb you are using for pain relief? my kitty was diagnosed with lymphoma a few months ago, and has been doing well on oral chemo, but now i think it may have stopped working and i am concerned about her being in pain. i don't want to take her out to the hamptons at this point. she is very frail, and probably won't be with us much longer, and i just want her to be comfortable.
  • I am sor sorry about your cat. It is devastating. The pain relief is combined with his herbal supplements. That is the only thing has helped him. I understand about the drive to the hamptons. Dr. Wen does sell some supplements on line--not directly but you email them and than they advise you (they are not computer savy). I do not know if they have anything that they will give you in the case of cancer and not seeing her...but it can't hurt at all to look and ask.

Hugs and kisses to the kitty.
