Estate sale. Four stories, two families. All boarded up... You've walked by it many times, and quig among others has commented on it in here in the message boards (somebody, quick! find the link!). Is that the right street address?

Brownstoner says: "all we know is that there's original oak detailing and it 'needs work'. (Given the relatively low price tag of $999,000, we're guessing it needs a lot of work.) As a bonus, it's on one of those sweet 131-foot lots particular to Prospect Heights."

Subject: house for sale

Hmmm. the picture's not so good, but it looks like 375 Park, right across the street from me. If it is, it needs more than just a little work. It was Daphne Weeks house, a wonderful Calypso bandleader lady from Trinidad. She'ld call over then kiss all the "young men" walking down the street. She passed away early Nov. last year (it was a very sad month), then a couple of weeks later, around 2AM, the house burned spectacularly--gutted from bottom to top. A bit mysterious. My granny, her friend, died three days after the blaze. They were both 99 or so.

Why (or how) would a realtor list the wrong address?

Crohiller

I smelled the smoke that night, went out to the street and eventually ended up bringing home another tenant of that building. She was very worried about the a woman in the building whom she called Queenie. Can you tell me what happened to the friend of your grandmother?

Danae
My granny was friends with Ms. Weekes who passed away a couple of weeks before the fire. I have no idea who lived in the house other than her rotating live-in attendants. The fire department called me a couple of times after to ask if I knew who lived in the house, which was odd. Why me? All I could tell them was what I saw on the news; that two women were saved from the blaze and the owner had died a couple of weeks before.

Oh my, my father and uncle played for Daphne Weeks from the 60's through the 70's when they both died. I wish I could've seen her before she passed. Do you know any of her family.

Subject: house on park place

I don't know any of her relatives. I think she had a niece. She was wonderful wasn't she? Could play absolutely anything on the piano and such a joy for life.

They had an open house there a couple of weeks ago. I thought it fairly insane. You had to sign a waiver to tour the place--basically enter at your own risk. They gave you a flashlight (no electricity) then let you walk around, taking your life in your own hands. I felt like a spelunker.The place was a wreck--lots junk around and plenty of smoke and fire damage, especially on the first floor where there was no back wall. It was open to the backyard. 900,000 +, what a bargain!
