let me see if i've got this right: a kid's pharmacy is going in, 2-or-3-doors away from where an ice cream shop went out of business? does this make sense?

It makes sense given the over diagnoses of ADHD and Autism and whatnot. Designer kids drugs for LD/ADD/AHDH?Aspergers that taste like bubblegum hooray!!!!!! Otherwise I know a few loudmouthed PS kids that could use some valium!

I'm totally and utterly stunned - I have no words to express whatever the hell it is that I am experiencing right this moment upon discovering this kidsrx inform...................

Just an FYI its not all about ADHD - NYC has a high number of children who are asthmatic as well as suffer from diabetes. There are many parents who can just barely afford health insurance and the cheapest ones will not cover certain medications unless they are ordered on-line and sometimes if you forget - it can mean life or death for you child.

How will this pharmacy solve the problem of un or under insured parents of asthmatic children?

I don't use this pharmacy my co-worker swears by this place because they are able to give you doses of medications in easy to use forms (i.e, lollipops, etc.). She said its nice to have people who are specifically geared and knowledgeable about most childhood sicknesses/diseases. This pharmacy carries the medications that are pretty much only available through mail order (such as Child Health Plus covered meds) like nebulizer inserts, inhalers, and individually tailored doses of the common diabetic medications and of course if you happen to not get that package or if you forget to order its a lifesaver to be able to get it right away.

I don't buy it. I got nebulizer inserts at my local pharmacy (Palma) and kids don't need candy flavored medicine (talking as a parent here). Seems like dressed up commericalism to me. I'm sure it is a nice place and I wish them well. I guess it is a good thing that it is not CVS, but I just really like Frank and the guys at Palma. I hope this does not hurt them, because I can't take A&S and Palma closing in the same year.

I think that's a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

Regardless, I think this will fit right in in a neighborhood which already has a bakery for dogs.

i find it to be uniquely new york that people seem to think that EVERY new store, restaurant or bar should cater to them.

so there's a children's pharmacy opening up. big deal. it's one store of 100's in park slope. clearly by the fact that they've had a location on hudson street in the west village for a couple years (with probably double or triple rent than here on 7th avenue) means they do have a customer base. their distinction for best pharmacy in new york (by nymag) in 2007 says something also. to me, anyway.

no, i will never set foot in this place most likely.

but i also prefer having something on that corner than either 2nd street cafe (which was pretty mediocre, in my opinion and not somewhere i ever planned to eat at again) or the vacant storefront which has been sitting almost a year.

not EVERY single store needs to be for YOU!

i'm not sure how they'll pay their rent either, but i say the same thing when i walk by the other 25 children's "boutiques," dog bakeries and thai restaurants in the slope.

maybe they got a deal on the rent since it's been sitting there so long unoccupied?

maybe they do a large online business?

maybe the gift baskets, books and baby registry brings in most of the income?

i don't know, but this place seems more of a one stop shop than some of the other places i walk by.

i guess i was grasping for straws, since i'm confused how so many places in park slope manage to stay open with such astronomical rents.

i try my best to buy everything i can in the neighborhood to support these local businesses, so i get slightly hot under the collar when i hear people trashing things before they've even opened.

A friend of mine was talking about how much money they made this one night, I thought he said "$6,000.00" He actually said "$6,000.00 MORE than the other nights." (Insert jealous emoticon here)
Some people make money locally (bars) but you'd be surprised at how many of the little stores struggle to get by; figuring out exactly how many zagnuts you need to sell to pay the rent; laying off employees; not running the a/c, etc..
I shop locally and I mean it. I go to the hardware stores and am relieved I don't have to go to Target. For anything. And I don't.
Kids RX is perfect for Park Slope. Get em with the toys, and then sell them your "Eco Marketing" so they leave feeling "green." Everybody wins.
