Best/Worst Blocks in Western Bed-Stuy...

I am looking around the area of Franklin to Marcy, Madison to Atlantic. What are your favorite and least favorite blocks? I remember someone was looking to buy in this area a few weeks ago and someone warned them against a specific block but I can't find the post now. Was looking for insight, I am less familiar with western Bed-Stuy. Endless thanks on my seemingly endless apartment hunt!

    I was looking to buy on Madison between Nostrand and Marcy and was warned off that block--after having some reservations about it myself in person. There are a couple of really gnarly looking tenements on that block that really denigrate the overall vibe of the block. Other people on the board concurred that that was a less than ideal block to buy on.

    I haven't walked on every block, but here's the range I know, which all seems fine to me....

    Fulton to Jefferson and Bedford to Tompkins. As you get farther north, away from Fulton, it gets alittle iffy. That's my opinion, anyway. Safe bets are Macon, Halsey, Hancock, Arlington and Verona.

    We are lookin at a place on Monroe between Bedford and Nostrand today...any thoughts on that block?

    What about Hancock at Marcus Garvey?

    While there are lots of boarded up houses on Macon beween Nostrand and Marcy, my friends live on this block and it is beautiful and relatively safe except for the occasional gunshot. Dimly lit, but friendly neighbors.

    I agree with this. Monroe also.

    Macon between Marcy and Nostrand is a great block. There are only 3 boarded up houses that I know of on that black and two of them are being renovated as we speak.. I have been on every block in southern Bedford Stuyvesant and I would stay away from Monroe and Madsion. Those streets get nice after you pass Marcus Garvey (Sumner). if I was you I would look on MacDonough, Decatur, Jefferson, Macon, Hancock, Arlington, Verona, Bainbridge, Stuyvesant and parts of Putnam after Tompkins

    Ugh I know. My friends live on that block (Macon) Break my heart.

    I was a little wary about passing Marcus Garvey. What amenities are near the Utica stop? That train always seems deserted at night....

    brooklynleather I would walk down lewis.. You have peaches bread-stuy coffee house, a small little book store, Art gallery and few little boutiques also on Lewis. Also you have the newly renovated Macon library all with-in 3 blocks of each other. Also Solomons Porch on Stuyvesant. I would check that area out.... I would not look past Malcolm X for a place...

    How is Utica late at night though? Any decent markets? I live at the very northern end of Stuyvesant right now and I am not into it.

    I would be scared to use the train there at night after I got mugged many years ago.
