  • OMG! TMZ was all I found...
TMZ has learned that Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman, 71, has been injured in a serious car accident in Mississippi.

Cops tell us the "Dark Knight" star was in a one car accident around 11:30 PM last night north of the small town of Ruleville. He was airlifted from the accident scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. We're told alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the wreck, news of which was first reported by MediaTakeout.

Freeman's condition is unknown, but state troopers tell us he was talking at the scene before he was taken to the hospital. The condition of an unidentified female passenger in the car also is unknown.

    Story developing ...

  • I saw that he was airlifted to Memphis hospital, so I googled for the news channels there and saw this report, which suggests that his car went off the road and flipped several times:

I'm temp working at a national/international weekly mag- so, yes. Whenever they have something that looks like death is approaching, news media start creating the tribute pieces just in case. They did it for Paul Newman a few weeks ago...
  • Let us know what you find out. Stories say he was conscious when airlifted and is in serious condition.

    Holding thumbs!
  • I will be so sad if this happens, I <3 him.
  • The gossip mill by the watercooler keeps says Morgan Freeman or Bernie Mac let us know what you find out - I love both those entertainers
  • yeah, i just read about it too on yahoo news:

sounds like he was conscious throughout the whole thing, and even joked with rescue workers. i hope his injury isnt that bad?
  • They say it's "possible" he fell asleep at the wheel.
  • wait what happened to paul newman??

on a horrible note, a comment from my boss: at least he took care of his bucket list.

    dick!

Nothing's happened...yet. But he's been pretty sick....so, the media prepares for the inevitable.

    that's a horrible joke.
but i can't help laughing. *feels guilty*
  • Fortunately he's doing fine, despite a few broken bits.

    Updated Reuters article here
Freeman's publicist, Donna Lee, said later that the actor's injuries included a broken arm, a broken elbow and "minor shoulder damage."

She said he would undergo surgery later Monday or on Tuesday, but was in good spirits. "He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery," Lee said.

I loved The Electric Company when I was a kid! When I got older I couldn't remember why Morgan Freeman looked so familiar to me though. It wasn't until a few years ago that I remembered he was the Easy Reader!
  • damn! I'd forgotten that, too! holy shit, thanks, stacey, caseo & carny for the reminders! trip (in more ways than one) down memory lane. (were they all stoned on that show???)
  • This has always been one of my favorites.

  • I can barely figure out what kids were supposed to learn from these bits. but since I remember them all, I obviously know I saw them and was enthralled. but ...

Easy Reader was a character on the kids show Electric Company on PBS. EC was like the next step up after Sesame Street and before Zoom (another kids show).

It was pretty cool because it had more music and more kids in it plus it also had Spiderman

Rita Moreno was also part of the cast as well as the voices of Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder
  • Hmmm, looks like the lady he was with in the crash was not wife-approved.
Looks like the Freeman's are divorcing.
  • I read in the paper they've been separated since Dec. 2007?
