Diabetic Kitty
I need some help. My cat was just diagnosed with diabetes and he needs to have special prescription cat food. I have only found one website that sells the Purina version, But I am looking for one that sells Hills Science Diet M/D. I will also need syringes, but I think I have a source for them.
Any ideas? Any suggestions for dealing with a diabetic crazy cat?
Thanks all!

I would ask your vet. If they don't supply them, I'm sure they would tell you where to get them.

The vet days supply everything except it is all very expensive and I have two cats. One cat is not diabetic but they both eat the same food.
Thank you though! -
I was afraid of that. Hopefully someone else will have a suggestion. Let us know if you find a cheap place for kitty meds (I have two kitties myself).

A friend of mine had a cat that had very severe kidney failure ... and he had to get the special Science Diet food, which is probably the same as that for a diabetic kitty.
He took his cat to Animal Kind Veterinary Clinic on 7th Avenue and they provided everything necessary to support the cat, from the syringes, special meds, as well as the Science Diet food.
If you have a seriously sick cat, I highly, highly recommend Dr. Gibson and Animal Kind. I think they are a wonderfully dedicated group of doctors and are so amazingly dedicated to their patients.
Good luck with your cat. He really needs a lot of TLC. -

I took him when he first got sick to Prospect Park Animal Care and I really like those folks. They also supply all the food he needs. It is just expensive. My other also eats with him so I am feeding two of them.
So far he is dealing with the shots better than I am. -

That's very interesting. You're lucky. He must be a very comfortable, even-tempered cat. Our cat went ballistic, claws out and screaming sometimes, at the sight of the syringe. (I was, by the way, TOTALLY incapable of and ENTIRELY squeamish at the thought of injecting the poor thing with anything, whether it was meds or saline).

He is a big stuffed animal type of cat. I give him his shot while he is eating. I really do not think he feels it. I almost passed out at the Vet during my shot lesson. I pass out during the blood tests.
It is pretty tough though. -
I worked for a feline specialty clinic for many years. Purina DM works wonders for diabetic cats and most find it very palatable.
