Small bike tour - car-free Saturday in Manhattan
So the next 3 Saturdays are car-free from 7am to 1pm from the start of Centre Street in Lower Manhattan to 72nd Street on the Upper East Side by way of Lafayette Street, Fourth Avenue, and Park Avenue.
I'm not sure what exactly I would do there (and so early!) but I think it would be a cool idea to check it out either way - I'm sure there'll be food, promotions, freebies and all kinds of other stuff.
Anyone interested in joining me for this? I'm thinking 10am-ish.

I'm busy this weekend when the streets are closed, so won't be able to join you for that.
I do think its a great idea and am pleased it's happening though! -
Anyone interested in doing this tomorrow? Or a midnight park ride for tonight? My bike misses me. And all of you.
-
I might be up for a midnight ride tonight if I can get out of work in time. My shift ends at 11, but I don't generally get out right away, and being back by 12 might be a little too optimistic. I'll PM you my cell number so you can text me if you're thinking of going. I'll let you know at that point whether I think I'm going to make it.

I'm planning on doing the car-free streets ride next Saturday the 23rd, if anyone wants to join. Another one of my folding bike brethren was interested, so that decided it for me.
I can't do it this weekend because I'm busy trying to sell my plants. -

Well, so far you're the only taker...and given the storm clouds rolling in at the moment, bike riding prospects aren't looking so good. Maybe I should have mentioned chicken rings. -
we'll (whynot and wife lisa) be doing the car free streets thing tomorrow, but am not sure whether we'll bike to mhtn or just take the subway then walk around.
Brooklyn bridge was too packed to bike across last weekend, so we might do manhattan bridge. PM me before 10 AM if you are interested joining us -
Sorry, can't join today and next week I have some prep work to do for my BBQ. I am however up for other bike trips, midnight or not. Let's keep this going before the weather gets too cold.

Did you end up going? I didnt see you message til after 10am. I had every intention to just ride up to the park and back, and then hop on the ferry to check out governors island. Somehow, I changed my mine en route, kept going north, crossed the GW Bridge and rode up to Alpine NJ before turning back. All of sudden a 15 mile ride became 50 miles.

City-streets leg was decent. Lot of people out there, which is good, except for the bicycle traffic jams.
I'm definitely up for other rides. Out of town next weekend though. -
yup, but I did the walking tour: We took the subway to Brooklyn Bridge, then walked up to 59th St.
...very cool to be able to walk around Grand Central. lots of people out.
The people selling socks haven't yet invaded the event.... (the street vendors who are always at every public event, have somehow been kept away)
