  • Not a good situation by any stretch of the imagination.

However I don't think gentrification always is "a very brutal, dirty, and greedy business."

Displacement is for sure and hopefully people have the ability to get organized and fight what seem to be some pretty nefarious, direputable, highly immoral and (hopefully) illegal tactics by the new landlord.

I say "hopefully illegal" tactics because that gives people grounds on which to fight the new landlord in court. The others don't really do that. They just mean that he'll burn in hell.
  • lsk, I hear what you're saying BUT to a great many it is indeed, brutal, dirty and slimy. This is just ONE example of the flipside of gentrification that a lot of ppl over look. If it doesn't directly affect the realm of their lifestyle most don't give a fuck as long as that trendy sidewalk cafe is made and the ppl they deem as eyesores are gone. It just gets written off as 'well neighborhoods change...blah, blah", without taking into account all of the underhanded things done to ppl and businesses to expedite that change. Ppl would rather get upset about a damn flea market(pro and anti) than things like this...
  • This is just f'ed up. Would it be okay if I posted a link to the blog on another BB, so that people, if interested, can be aware of what is happening?
  • drkman,
