Absolute best eyeglasses / Optometrist place evah??!
It's been forever since I've seen a eyeglasses shop recommendation or a optometrist rec. I have an excellent dentist thanks to this board, but now I need a talented, thorough and precise eye doctor and a place to get the coolest retro-look frames.
Any place in PS or nearby? For frames I'm willing to go further into the other nabes or manhattan.

I'm a cheap ass. I actually go to Costco for my glasses. I forget how much the eye exam is - but I got two sets of glasses (one Cynthia Crowley and one Donna Karen) for about 300.00.

brooklyn eyeworks is THE BEST!!!!
honestly, i can not say enough good things about them. it's on 5th between 14th and 15th. the guy who runs the place and the younger girl named jessica are fantastic..super helpful, have great style and know what looks good on the face.
they have a great selection and i've been wearing glasses for many years so i've tried a number of places.
i ended up getting two pairs from them (plus new lenses on another pair) and i get compliments CONSTANTLY on these frames.
i want to go back and get a pair of sunglasses now that you've reminded me. -
Mama, go to Eye Shoppe on 7th on the corner of President St. If you go on a Friday see Paula and tell her I sent you, she's the best. Carlos is also great, he knows me too. I got my current frames there, they match my hair, eyeshadow, and eyeliner, and they have rhinestones. I love them and they weren't crazy expensive. They have a really nice selection of frames that I'm always ogling when I go in there, not boring stuff like so many other places.

yeah, i just got my new glasses at Eye Shoppe on 7th. they are friendly, and offered good service.
i checked out the store around 9th st and 7th ave, but doesnt have much selection that suit me. and another two more stores in between where the staff didnt even bother to assist you (forgot the store names). there was one where the staff was yakking away on the cellphone while i was waiting for her to finish up and unlock the display glass door.
but i finally settled with eye shoppe on 7th. -
I need to get my eyes checked. Do they do this for a reasonable fee at any of these places?
I've never had glasses and haven't had my eyes checked for about 4 years and think I may need reading glasses, so a basic exam is all I need. -

I agree-they are super nice and helpful. I always go to them. -
Park West Vision on PPW near 16th Street...Dr. Capetello has been there forever - prices reasonable and care is excellent.

I recommend Park Slope Optical on Flatbush right by Pintchik. It's an unassuming little place but the owner is very knowledgeable and their doctor is quite good too. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Parkin -- apparently I was wearing the wrong prescription for years. Do not go there.

Where does Parkin work so I avoid that place!?

I like Carlos and that nice lady that works there (must be Paula) but the owner guy with the goofy glasses is CREEPY.
My new favorite place in the nabe (I'm looking for new glasses too) is on Union between 4th and 5th (closer to 5th, above the tatttoo parlor, replaced the short lived fancy cosmetics store) SUPER nice, etc.
The other place I am enamored with is in Soho, Wooster St - muy retro frames, and a southern guy who has a great eye and an even better manner. -
No love for Urban Optical? Dr. Adam and his staff will spend endless hours with you looking for the perfect pair

a stack of board regulars seem to love Parkin (me = no personal experience, just surprised to see so much love after reading a big negative over here) -
Park West Vsion, Dr. Capetola, PPW & 16th St. is extremely professional. This place so much better than any of the "fancy"PS glass boutiques.

Adam is great. The newer place is much nicer and larger although he still has problems finding stuff
The staff is very nice as well. -

i absolutely love them. i've been stuck with health plans the past two years that only do GVS (and had to use a place on Court St.) but, if I had my choice, I'd go to Dr. Capetola every time. i've honestly thought about jus tpaying out-of-pocket to go back there.
the only drawback is that it's a bit far for someone living in the northest part of the Slope. still worth it, though. -
I have to again second the opinion to go to Dr. Capetelo at Park West Vision (and yes, I would go out of pocket to him). All these other places on 7th come and go, Dr. Captelo has been her for about 30 years.
