I highly recommend Sepia. It's quiet and adult without being stodgy.
  • Hey! Welcome. Register! Soda Bar.

oh, that kind of first date? why not just hit mooney's right off the bat?!?!
  • And make your first date on a Wednesday at 8 pm!
  • Tavern on Dean?
  • I have been to Sepia and it is a great bar. But...I haven't been to Mooney's or Tavern on Dean. Okay, its a toss up, any votes?
Thanks for all the fast responses too.
    Hey! Welcome. Register! Soda Bar.
I have registered under another name but I forgot my log-in info! I will try and find it.
  • First date: go to half
  • I vote Sepia.

You definitely don't want to make a first date out of Mooney's unless you're the pool and wings and colorful alcoholics-loving type.

watch out for the chipped wine glasses and shoddy service.

yeah, mooneys was a joke. sorry!
try tavern on dean! but it's more of a restaurant with a bar. just an FYI.

and I'm not kidding about half -- they have degenerated big time. chipped glasses are not cute at all. ever. especially when you send one back and get a slightly less chipped replacement.
  • Freddy's.

    I'm kidding. Sepia hands down.
  • I like Beast. Don't go to Chocolate Monkey.
  • True.. beast is a little more intimate. Pricey grub though.

She's the girl, who cares how much it is?! Kidding kidding.
  • if you're looking for a wine bar, i'd go with total wine bar on 5th and st. marks. also, i think that al di la on 5th/carroll has a wine bar as well.

don't go to freddy's, any bar on flatbush, or soda bar. those are not first date bars.

Yeah, I think there are various types of first date bars. If it's the kind of first date for which you think there's some real romantic possibility, you want someplace somewhat intimate but not too freaky-deaky -- don't want to scare 'em off. If it's the kind of first date for which you think you might just want to do a quick evaluation to decide whether this person is a psycho or someone you want to take home right away, you want someplace that's intimate/loungey, freaky-deaky, and very close to your place -- plus you want it to be someplace where there's not a huge likelihood of your friends seeing/interrupting you.

definitely a romantic, wine-in-the-know, first date bar ... NOT freaky-deaky.

And closer to home .. Sepia ... definitely .. SODA --- I guess it depends on you and your date ... could be a very fun first date ..

    if you want freaky-deaky ... loki? :?

Well, here I am, the real registered person who posted this message in the first place.
I already sealed the deal with Soda. So I will just have to go with the flow over there and maybe get one of their delicious veggie burgers too! YUM!
I will go check out those wine bars mentioned, I love wine!

Great. First you get Neil Diamond stuck in my head, and now the Grease soundtrack! Dammit!

    Welcome. :D
  • What's wrong with Chocolate Monkey (other than the Muddy Waters connection)? I've passed it a million times, but have never given it a shot. Any details?
