Going rate for catsitters
I didn't mean to double post but I just read on the pet board that the going rate for a catsitter is $25/day!! Is that right? My usual teen catsitter ($10/day) is not available so I have to look for a pro (but not a vet tech). Is that what people are paying to put some food down and take in the mail???

Last year we paid $15/hr which seemed about right. Besides the basics (fresh food & water, clean litter, quick check of the apt..) a good cat sitter should spend time playing with the cat. Without a little daily interaction a cat can get over stressed and take it out in all kinds of unhappy ways.

$25/hour? Surely someone will do it for less.
I know a woman who charges $300/week and requests access to a well stocked refrigerator for sleeping in a home with one cat the whole week. She goes to her 9-5/M-F too. A great deal for someone needing a place to crash. -
Yikes! I do it for karma points and a souvenir bring-home.

My pet sitter charges $20 per feeding visit, and $70 for overnight stay (includes 2 feedings). But I only have cats... I assume it might cost more for dogs?
-
Mine charges $35 for two visits. She plays with them, and gives one of them an insulin shot during each visit. She does an excellent job with the diabetic kitty who can be a bit onery (sp?)>

i make $20/day of pet-sitting, whether cat or dog. i'm not part of a company and i've only helped out coworkers, so maybe i get extra for that, but it seems reasonable especially with dogs, when i must travel multiple times per day to walk them.
-
That's extremely reasonable for dog care.

I already posted to the other thread, but... When I called 4-5 places last month for cat sitting, I found the going rate in the area to be $20/day.

I've only done it for friends, but I never charge anything! Maybe a beer or two and a netflix.
If you're local, PM me, I'll take care of your kitties! -
I don't condone anyone sitting on a cat. Perhaps using the cat as a footstool, but sitting on it...that's just cruel.

I pay $25 a day - which is going up to $30 because I have one cat who is on medication...my cat sitter stays for a half hour, and besides company for my cats, she takes care of the letter box, making sure their food area is clean, etc. Most important...she knows what to do if anything goes wrong. I used to have a neighbor come in (for free), but I don't have that option anymore)

That is how it should be done. If Park Slope is sch a great community, neighbors should be helping each other out.
