near 9th St. They had signs up for $3.89 and I stopped in to get gas and when I started to pump I noticed it was reading $3.93. When I asked Anwar the attendent he told me he was changing the signs NOW. But I asked when was he going to change the machines (after putting in $20) and he wouldn't answer me or look at me. They changed the signs to get you in but they are not really adjusting the dispensers....BE AWARE.

  • A general note, not directly related to what happened above, but while we are on the subject of the gas prices posted on the signs:

The prices you see posted at gas stations are CASH prices only.

You will not get that price if you opt to charge it to your debit or credit card, only if you pay with cash in hand.

Credit card prices are usually another ~30 cents per gallon above the stated CASH prices.

In addition, prices are usually truncated (cut off) at 2 decimal points, NOT rounded up or down to nearest cent.

For example, if you see a price of $3.87 per gallon listed at any gas station, the actual price may be $3.87999, which is basically $3.88. Sure, it may just mean < 20 cents total after filling up, but it still just kinda adds to the overall lame feeling of being taken at the pumps lately.
  • 3.93 is still pretty darn good though, but I get what you are saying.
  • Wait a second... when you use a debit or credit card you get charged an extra $.30 per gallon?

Is this true? Is this legal? Can anyone confirm this in a manner a bit less anecdotal?

I have NOT seen any charges $.30/gal over, but I have definitely seen the return on different prices for cash/credit. Which are actually a cash DISCOUNT for legal reasons. I have seen a $.06-$.10 discount for cash. Legally, any large sign out front has to clearly state if the price shown is for cash or credit, if they are different. And the pump topper is supposed to clearly display BOTH prices.

Which isn't to say that is the reality of it. Just the legal part.

I don't get gas in NYC anyhow other than when I forget to fill up in NJ. Since I work in NJ I fill up there, $3.49 this AM babeeee!!!!

And on a more somber note, who among us would have ever thought that they would be excited about $3.49 gas. Not I. I remember when it hit the $1.40s and I was all WTF??? Now, $3.49 gets me all hot.

    Damn.
