Wow, 4th ave is really bumpin'!

One criticism, that Chinese take out next door is seriously nasty. They used to be on the corner where this ramen place will now be. When they moved next door, they left these thick tar like pools of grease and filth all over the inside and on the sidewalk. Don't eat there, you'll die of food poisoning, or get a roach wrap :puker:

From brownstoner:
South Brooklyn's first ramen restaurant will open in the storefront vacated by a Chinese take-out joint on 4th Avenue and Degraw. The owners of Aussie-themed gastropub Sheep Station, which is a block away, are behind the planned restaurant. The menu will be "all ramen," according to one of the future restaurant's proprietors, and they're hoping to open sometime in November. Between the Australian fare at Sheep Station, the Ethiopian cuisine at Ghenet Brooklyn, and this forthcoming ramen emporium, 4th Avenue is slowly becoming a feast of many flavors, and, happily, giving Slopers a few alternatives to the restaurant row scene an avenue away.

  • damnit woman, did you NEED to mention the roach wrap?!
  • Sorry Carmen, it's gone down in brooklynian lore now :P

I do have a weird story to add:

I ran into a flier a while ago on the floor by that block. It said something like, "Degraw residents come out and going us to be Green and clean up our street. Come out and help clean up our front yards and sidewalks, aftewards there will be a block party to celebrate"

The flier was for this block of degraw and signed some girls name. for sometime in the close future (october?).

Here's my question??? Do you think it was started by someone associated with the new Sheep Station development in a try to get this block cleaned up and looking nice for the restaurant?

    Don't mind me, I'm just paranoid 8-[ :P
  • Mami, you need a vacation or something.
Me, I need a ramen bar run by Sheep Station just when it gets cold out...mmm. Actually, I already heard about this -- the asian guy that cooks at Sheepie is the executive chef of the new place.

I like the Lam's place people (rarely get food there, and frankly, all the take-out chinoise have the problem you describe) - their kid that sits outside the restaurant playing many evenings is adorable.

Has Ghenet ratched up the heat yet? It's a pretty space, but the food didn't have the fire I expected.
  • Hey Pitu, it's a small space, will it only be take-out? Have you heard any other news about it.. when I might be able to get my first bowl?

I was wondering that myself - I thought it was October opening. I thiiiiink they are doing some in-house. I hope it's a noodle bar. Lam had a pretty big kitchen and a miniscule front of the house - I bet they just flip the size ratio.
  • i am definitely going to eat here when it opens, i might even be there for the opening night. (even though i've been boycotting sheep station, after a friend was harassed there by the owner and a waitress)
  • mamacita, the clean up/block party is being organized by one of the residents of the block.

Jeez, a restaurant where starving students and others in similar financial straits can enjoy the staple foods of their youth at quadruple the price.
