paper / art store?

i know there is one on 7th ave and 12th street (somewhere around there) and i think there are more stores nearby, but i cant remember the exact location.

it's a bday gift for my friend who loves making cards / stamping. she has many craft supplies already, but i thought i'll add more to her collection, maybe different stamps. or any other suggestion?

there is another friend who is celebrating the bday together with the first girl too, i know her but i cant say im close to her. since im getting something for the first girl, maybe i should get the second girl something too, but i can't think of anything since i dont know what she likes. any idea?

  • 5th Ave between president and carroll has a great card store with stamps and paper and lettra-set cards...a little further north - about five blocks - on the same side of the street is a small art supply store

come to think of it, on 5th ave across from the park at 3rd - 5th streets, there's a newish place that looks like an antiquey-home store -- they have upscale craft stuff in the back

no, I don't know the name of a single one of these. they are all on the east side of 5th Ave...maybe check the smalltownbrooklyn site with the scrolling maps... :D

Its Brooklyn Mercantile I think. They have mostly fabric notions but also have some scrapbooking stuff. Not much in the way of "art" supplies, though. My boyfriend is an artist and usually hits up the place on 7th ave near 12st or wherever it is and he's been happy with it.

That's the one. They do "scrapbooking" supplies. (That phenomenon is sooo odd imho)
The regular unassuming art store is way further down, towards Flatbush. Paints in tubes, etc.
  • Go to Be Crafty on 4th St., right around the corner of 7th Ave. (453-B 4th Street). I got my Xacto knife there, and I remember seeing lots of crafty things in there.

Don't bother getting anything for the second born, they are clearly not important. Their purpose in the world is to be doormats to their first born significant others. I don't even think second borns can handle any type of attention, its just best to abuse them for entertainment value.
  • hey, thanks everyone. i just did my gift shopping yesterday

i think you are talking about "lion in the sun", and yeah, that's the exact location for paper shop. i went there yesterday thanks to you  they have tons of pretty papers, but not so much on other craft supplies, though. i only found one box of stamps, which i bought in the end. also bought bday cards there.

there is another nice little gift store nearby, i didnt check the store name, but it's between 4th and 5th on 7th avenue, the lady behind the counter was very friendly too. but i didnt get anything. maybe next time.
