Where do all the used boogaboos go?
Having lived in the hood for a year (who-woo), I noticed a large number of cool expensive strollers and other fab baby paraphernalia. But when those babies grow up, where does all the cool stuff go? Basements? Garbage? Stoop Sales?
Is there a way for someone on a budget to purchase some of it and also help previous owners get rid of all that bulky stuff?
Stoop sales?
Baby stuff consignment store?

Park Slope Parents, Craigslist, friends, stoop sales. I don't know about a consignment store...I would imagine there are some insurance nightmares that may make this a hassle, although I'd check out the local S. Army.
I've been throwing my outgrown stuff on friends w/younger kids as fast as possible so I don't get buried in it.... -
Is "Park Slope Parents" an organization/group/message board?

I have had 4 kids and I can tell you that it all goes in the garbage. Especially yuppy babies (the strollers go in the garbage, not the babies, fool). They ride their strollers until they get their first beemer and they're still in diapers. Seriously look at some of the 4 and 5 year olds riding in their beater strollers, wheels worn down to the rims. Not to mention the permanent brown streak going up the middle of the seat, or is that in the beemer? Whatever.

It's kind of all three, and is full of nut jobs and really helpful people/info who manage to coexist, somewhat.

Stoop sales. My friend got the luxe Bugaboo at a stoop sale...and you can too.

Three words: Park Slope Parents. It's a godsend for used stuff. I get as much used baby gear as I can from their classifieds listserv:

The bugaboo was just getting big when my son was born (a little over 4 years ago). His younger brother now uses it. When he is done with it in 3 years - give or take - we will probably donate it if it is in any kind of usable condition, or sell it for scrap.

all kids grow up and soon in a few years you guys will be dealing with park slope teenagers instead of those strollers.
-
...used boogawhat? Wow...I thought you were talking about something else....
If you mean strollers, I see parents push kids in strollers from birth to the third grade in this neighborhood. After all those years, the strollers are probably kaput. -
Also try freecycle. I've seen some pretty pricey stuff there
-
usually they are given away with the baby since having babies is just a fad.

they could donate them to my agency, which is a preventive agency working with families who are at risk of becoming involved with ACS, or are. the need for strollers and car seats is pretty big, the agencies who provide them have more demand and supply, and they could make a major difference to a family.
just a thought. -
When I was a young mother I bought a Perego carriage that converted to a stroller as well and that was it. For its time it was expensive but no where near what those Bugaboo things cost.
Well as a Grandma I have bought strollers for the 3 grandkids and I mean many. I started out buying brand new the stroller that my kids "thought" they wanted but then they needed a lighter weight one and a jogging stroller and then an umbrella stroller.
Somewhere back there I gave up on "new" and started to scout around stoop sales, the salvation army and classifieds on PSP and Craigs list and bought some great used strollers and sold some of our collection. The strollers I have sent back in to the universe were in good condition. It was like having many pairs of shoes..you aren't likely to wear out any one pair to quickly. -
check the kids store on Grand ave and Clifton Pl called still hip.....they have repurposed clothes, toys and strollers.

One of the benefits of having children while young, poor, and politically idealistic is that you don't have to worry about buying things like thousand dollar strollers. I didn't even know that there were such things before moving to Brooklyn.
Plus three year olds can walk fast enough to keep up. Damn it.

I work for the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service, although if anyone actually wanted to take me up on that post, they should probably PM me.
