cocotte goes italian

Just what 5th Avenue needed - another Italian restaurant! <sarcasim>
-
yeah, plus ANOTHER italian, "family style" place is supposed to open on 5th also. same people as apertivo and the other place on 7th i can't remember...
with such a great italian place in al di la, it seems the competition for mediocre ones is a bit futile.
who knows though...maybe this one will be terrific. i'm always up for a surprise.
i wish we could get a vietnamese sandwich shop in these parts. -
Courtesy of Billy Joel...
"A bottle of white, a bottle of red
Perhaps a bottle of rosé instead
We'll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
You and I - face to face hm, hm
A bottle of red, a bottle of white
It all depends upon your appetite
I'll meet you any time you want
In our Italian Restaurant." -
I wish we could get a decent korean place. We went to Moim the other night and were SO disappointed.
-
I admit I am disappointed with the Italian turn over of Cocotte. I liked that place a lot! I liked it much better than Mutarde.
I have the short list of Italian when I need it without another restaurant.
Al Di La..... almost can never get in
La Villa...can get in and there are afew things I really like and it is nice place for a group of 6 or 8 people. That works for me cause we have a big family. Kid friendly
Aunt Suzies.. Who the hell knows why? Probably because 13 years ago we had daughter's engagement party there so I am nostalgic. And if you find a dish you enjoy it tastes the same every single time. I think the chef... is a robot. -

What did you not like about Moim? Was the food not authentic or just bad? More cockroaches? -
We went to Moim last week (for the second time) and were delighted! No cockroaches, very attentive service, and delicious food.
As for authenticity, I will admit that I ordered "Korean ossobucco". I have a strong suspicion that if one tried to order ossobucco at a restaurant in Korea, the staff would have no idea what you were talking about.
Nevertheless, it was indeed different than ossobucco at any Italian restaurant I've patronized, and it was superb.
For a meal of that quality, the bill was quite reasonable: $70 for two drinks, two appetizers, and two entrees (we were too full for dessert). -
We got a bunch of small plates and everything was greasy, poorly seasoned and bland, plus our waiter ignored us for almost 20 minutes (we didn't even get menus. I made eye contact with every waiter I could find and they all ignored us.)
It ended up being around $50 with two glasses of wine, totally not worth it. We won't be back. -
weird about moim. it's one of my favorite places in park slope.
took a few korean friends there and they thought it was better than koreatown.
i go back often and love it. -
Moim is on our regular rotation and we've always experience really good food and service - have gone maybe 10 times - Carmen I think you hit an anomalous off-night. I'm hooked on their kimchi fried rice w/shrimp & the dumpling stuffed with kimchi, ground pork and tofu

I would love a good indian resturant on 5th

Have you tried Kinara? -
While I did think Moim had slipped a tiny bit last time I went (and that now was about.....two months ago? That has to say something....), I still think it's one of the top restaurants in the 'hood. I'm not surprised, though, to begin to hear some negative vibes about the place. The ribs weren't up to snuff last time, and the ginger soju drink was MUCH better when they opened.

Strange about Moim...we've always enjoyed it. What the Slope needs is a good Vietnamese sandwich joint.
Howdy, Stranger!
