3G Coverage in PS

So, EDGE service is getting worse and worse in Park Slope. Do any of y'all have the iPhone 3G? If so, how's the coverage?

Thanks,

  • I have a blackjack with 3g and it goes back and forth between edge and 3g depending on where I am. In the house its mostly 3g except towards the middle of the building where it's edge. Weird, right? I always have one or the other, though.

I so agree with you on Edge getting worse. I'm of no mind to switch to iPhone 3G since I don't believe the coverage is very good anyway.
  • Btw- the iphone isnt the only 3b capable device. My blackjack II has it and the new blackberries are coming out next month with 3g capability. So you don't need to spend $300 to use it...my blackjack was $50 after rebate.
  • i'm in the north slope, and have had no problems with the 3g so far up here. works like a charm.

have you downloaded the most recent update from last week??
  • Using iPhone in S. Slope/WT and no problems with 3G....but I didn't have many problems with EDGE either (except on 5th Ave. near 12th St)
  • I have a blackjack II, which was free with the rebate and some haggling. It uses 3G and it always seems to work.

Side note, Cingular sucks, compared to Verizon. I get dropped calls all the time since switching. Never had them with Verizon, but verizon does not have the phones I like (my next one will be an iPhone probably).
  • im near the park on 11th street, and i get 3g around the apartment. it works great.

except today when it was raining, my phone showed 3g, but it barely loaded anything. i dont know if it was coincidental or whether the weather really has anything to do with it.
  • my fiance just bought an iPhone and seems to have no problems with the 3G in south slope. She's had it for a day now, so I'll report back if it turns out she has spotty internet service.
  • has anyone jailbroken the iphone 3g for tmobile yet? I've seen it on youtube but I'd like to meet an actual human who has done it with success. I am OVER my tmobile phone/paperweight which freezes every 30 seconds and types invisible text after my first line.
  • i jailbroke my 3g iphone a little while ago, and im using att. but jailbreaking doesnt mean unlocking, and it is the unlocking part that allows you to use it on other carrier.

and the latest news i heard, which was 1-2 weeks ago, iphone 3g is still un-lockable, though jailbreak-able
  • so, what does it mean to jailbreak it and what are the benefits?
  • jailbreak allows you to do many other things that are not allowed by apple  you can install 3rd party application (other than the apps already available in app store), customize graphics or sounds of your phone, access the inside of the phone, tether your phone to your laptop - which means getting internet access on laptop at 3g speed from iphone, say if there isnt any wifi available (not legal though  but heck, jailbreaking is not exactly legal anyway), and many other things if you like tweaking around your phone. and i think there is also another app that allows you to call by voip, which of course would save you tons of minutes - again, not legal. i never tried it myself, so i cant say how the quality is like.

    so, yeah. things like that.
