reliable pharmacy in the slope? too much to ask?
does anyone have any good things to say about any pharmacy in the slope?
rite aid on 7th and 5th has messed up/lost/incorrectly filled COUNTLESS prescriptions and i've heard not so great things about neergaard on 5th and 9th.
please tell me there is at least ONE dependable pharmacy one can rely on
please?

Slope Drugs
5thAvenue and 7th street
I can't say enough good things about this small, reliable, family-feel pharmacy.
This is not a place to pick up milk and sponges. yes there are basic otc meds and stuff but this is really an old fashioned pharmacy. It sounds like you are in this part of the Slope.... try and bring even one script and let them fill it. -
probably not convenient for you, but Oak Park in Bartel Pritchard Square (the circle by the park) has been filling my prescriptions for 11 years and has NEVER let me down
-
Ansonia Chemists on 7th is awsome..I can go 6mos w/out going there and they still remember my name
-
Park Slope Pharmacy & Surgical -- Eighth Avenue and Eighth Street. Personal service.
-
If a nosy busybody who constantly asks inappropriate questions about your personal life as it relates to the medication he dispenses in his creepy 1950's hole in the wall is your idea of "personal service", then by all means go to Park Slope Pharmacy on 8th Avenue.
And what is up with still using a carbon copy back and forth impression maker when you want to use a debit card? Hello 21st century! -
Don't know what you've heard about Neergaard but I've used them more than you are to know in the last few years, and yes a few problems here and there but I like them just the same

Second this. I had to stop going there as my insurance company wouldn't deal with them - only chains - and I was sad. They really watched out for drug interactions and were great about warning me to side effects. Very careful, caring people. -
Health Aid Pharmacy on 7th Avenue between 7th & 8th Streets. They are great-good prices too if you don't happen to have insurance.
-
I'll second the nod to Health Aid Pharmacy on 7th Ave. Very nice people, and they usually fill my prescriptions right away in about 5-10 minutes. I also receive letters from them in the mail reminding me when I need to order refills.
-
I am a pharmacist and your statment is very vague. What exactly do you mean by "dependable"?
Most pharmacists will do their best to make sure that you get good service and will ensure that there are no problems with your medications (drug-drug interactions/ allergy-drug interactions / correct dose and frequency etc etc). -
Self medicate = no pharmacy visit
-
I third Health Aid Pharmacy. They're good folks and they do a good job.

and i fourth it.
they will come to your house to pick up your paper rx. they will bring it to the pharmacy and then bring you your drugs. doesn't get much easier than that. plus, the owner, ayman tawadros (sp?), is really nice and very helpful. and he always tells me i'm beautiful. i love them

I'm a big fan of Palma on Garfield and 7th. They're not perfect, you have to check your prescriptions to make sure they have the right count (if they don't the bottle is marked) and they may take a day or two for fills. But they will call your doctor or HMO for refills on expireds, or if there's a problem of any sort. Plus they'll deliver.
-
neergaard. i walk all the way there from crown heights because they're the only place that will carry one of my scrips. i've been very impressed with their service when things are tricky.

idlewild, 2 days to fill a script?
-
brooklynpotter wrote: idlewild, 2 days to fill a script?
It happens very rarely. Maybe three times for the five years I've been going there. And they do tell you up front. -
thank you all! greatly appreciated!
and flux- by dependable i mean losing prescriptions (yes LOSING THEM,) filling a rx with the WRONG medication, saying a particular med is in and then having it not be and then having to wait 2 days or so with no meds in the meantime... oh general 'not dependable' things like that that Rite Aid has done repeatedly.... -

I thought that it was just me. I recently finished a prescription at the Kings Pharmacy on Flatbush. I switched from Duane Reade because I wanted to patronize a local chain. In the six times I had that prescription filled, Kings gave me the wrong variety of the drug THREE times. I wasn't asking for much, just a correct reading of the the label.

And the fourth time, I called in a refill only to arrive and be told that they didn't have it in stock--come back tomorrow. This was after being told that the drug was in stock. Whoops.
So, I was looking at two mistake-free instances at Kings.
Believe me, my next series of refills are going right back to Duane Reade. I don't like that chain, but at least the pharmacists have their reading glasses on. -
i went to that duane reade to pick up an rx for a friend. insulin and needles. i should have looked in the bag: someone else's insulin and no needles.
no thanks -
Is this like a Brooklyn thing or what? The Rite-Aid near me always takes at least a day, often two. If they actually have to _get_ the drug, which for two of my three they usually do, it is more like 4-5 days. And I can't even count the number of times I've shown up when told to and it isn't ready because of some BS problem. They've tried all kinds of amazing excuses. I only fill things there when I have weeks before I need it, otherwise I'll fill them in Staten Island or NJ where any random place I walk in to is able to fill any or all of the three within fifteen minutes.

Yes, that is one of my favorite things about them. A few years back i was sick as a dog in bed. they came, got my paper script and then came back a little while later with all my prescriptions-it was great!
There was also the time about 3 years ago when my husband ran in there right at closing time to get a script filled for my very sick youngest child. They were out of the meds the script called for and they kept the pharmacy open long enough to call my child's doctor and wait for a call back from him with a new script that they did have in stock. they are great people! -
Ansonia Chemists are the best.
-
I'm tempted to withdraw my recommendation for Health Aid Pharmacy. (Pouts...) The owners never tell me that I'm beautiful!

fuck kings. when i was trying to track down a pharmacy to fill the aforementioned hard-to-fill scrip, only neergaard could fill it for me (regardless of how long i was willing to wait -- others wouldn't order it), but only kings treated me like shit for asking and lectured me about it. assholes. they're not my doctor. -
rite aid lectured me about my drugs. said they had to call the doctor before filling two of them because they were the "same" drug (two similar ones) and they wanted to make sure he hadn't made a mistake.
when i told them i knew they weren't the same drug, and explained how each one worked, they said i was wrong. it was bullshit. that's when i grabbed my scripts and went to the closest pharmacy, which turned out to be health-aid. -
Subject: prospect garden on Union and 7th
I have had nothing but good service from Prospect Gardens Pharmacy on Union and 7th - left rite aid and the one on garfield because of problems. -
To everyone on this post who has voiced a pharmacists mistake: Please make sure they are reported. What might seem like a small mistake in your case could be a serious case when a 2 year old is concerned. A pharmacist must check his work to insure it is correct. We are not dealing with fruits and vegetables here!
However, If a pharmacist changes a brand name Rx to a generic...its not a mistake (most likely your insurance will not cover the brand).
If they do not have your drug in stock its not a mistake (no pharmacy stocks 100% of the drugs out there....it would be impossible). If its a medication that you need right away, go to another pharmacy. Do not wait 2 days for it to arrive!
brooklynpotter-im assuming you were talking about insulins. every pharmacist must know about the different types/duration of action etc. The pharmacist you talked with at rite aid is a very poor excuss of a pharmacist and an emberessment to my profession.
rite aid/cvs/and daune reade all push for volume over quality. The pharmacists working at the chain places are placed under huge stress and on average burn out after 2 years. I used to work for a chain pharmacy for 2 years before leaving for a clinical post at a local hospital and am much happier now.
Sincerely,
Your friendly local pharmacist. -
to flux and other pharmacists:
i just want to make clear that my issue with kings isn't that there was a real problem with the drug my doctor had prescribed -- a pharmacist with a sharp eye likely saved my grandmother's life by noticing a dosage problem, so i'm okay with some independent thinking in my pharmacy. it was that when i said "i have this prescription (in my hand). can you fill this, or will you not be able to?" they didn't just say no, we can't, but instead shamed me for asking.
as for things being in stock, i don't mind waiting for some things, but like daver, i have noticed an unusual number of stores in manhattan and brooklyn that rely on getting very common drugs delivered from some central source, such that a patient ends up having to wait more than a day every time for ordinary drugs. duane reade in manhattan (more than one location) has particularly impressed me in this regard.
