Help us get a Dog Run in Clinton Hill!
Clinton Hill and Ft. Greene needs a dog run. The off leash hours in Ft. Greene park are great, but insufficient for many of us. Besides the hours being inconvenient for many, not all dogs can be trusted off leash in an unconfined space. I in no way wish to undermine the off leash hours at Ft. Greene Park. I just think a dog run in the neighborhood would be a wonderful addition.
I'd like to hear from anyone who is interested in having a dog run in
the Clinton Hill/Ft. Greene area. Whether you're ready to volunteer
services or just supportive of having a dog run nearby, please feel
free to email me with your ideas. I would also appreciate input on how to go about organizing volunteers and actually approaching the community board / parks department with a proposal.

Please JOIN the group if you support the idea of a dog run in Clinton Hill. At some point soon, we will need proof of how many people might potentially utilize a dog run.
I've been in communication with the parks dept, and it's looking like we actually have a shot at achieving this. We need your support though!!
I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Have you contacted FIDO to see how they go about getting dog runs set up?
What space in CH do you have in mind? -
The current idea is Steuben Playground. There is a discussion about possible spaces at our google group. You should join and check it out:

I am not a dog owner but I signed up. I am pro-pet.

Thank you. I encourage anyone else who is pro-pet to do likewise. You can opt out of receiving emails if you'd like.

I'm pro urban children who have limited use of outdoor space and would rather see the playground remain there.

Subject: It's A Poor Choice For A Dog Run

I've been doing some thinking about this suggestion and I've come to the conclusion that Steuben Park would be a poor choice for a dog run.

1. When the City puts in a dog run they don't leave the grass (that's only for official off-leash parks) they generally dig up the grass and throw down wood chips. Think Hillside Park in Brooklyn Heights.
2. There's no chance in Hades that the city would allow the whole space inside the walking track at Steuben Park to be turned into a dog run. That makes it a pretty small space.
Why not try to convince the city to convert an alternative space to a dog run that will leave Steuben Park as is and also benefit dog owners?
I'm talking about making a dog run that will be Clinton Hill's version of Peter Detmold Park, which is between East 49th & East 51st street, in Manhattan. In case you've never been Peter Detmold Park is partially covered by a walkway that goes across the FDR
Yes, I'm suggesting that you convince the City to build a dog run under the BQE. It rains a lot here in NYC and having a space where you can take to and not have it get absolutely soaked while it's getting some exercise would be great.
Once construction ends on the BQE ( :?: :?: ) that space that's available is going to be up for grabs. You can let it devolve into another parking lot and garbage dump or you can try and stake out a claim for a section of it.
Think about it.
