  • ditto! yes, my friends are involved as well but i am super impressed and proud of them for getting it off the ground.
  • So far I am not impressed.

I sent an e-mail on Tuesday inquiring about yoga classes and still have not heard back. While it's an upstart, prompt responses are a must if you want to be successful. More satisfied clients = more profits and increased clientele.
  • I will fwd your concerns, sorry to hear.
  • Thanks brooklynleather!

It would be great to try a neighborhood place rather than trekking to Union Sq.
  • Third Root Community Health Center is a worker-owned cooperative of 8 practitioners from different modalities. Our skills and experiences vary and overlap. We have no boss, and we are each the boss, making collaborative decisions, and caring for our communities in a cohesive way. Third Root is a place for acute or chronic health concerns, preventive care, and resources for making informed choices in healthcare. Third Root is accessible and inclusive regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, class status, immigration status, ability, or age, where practitioners learn from each other, exchanging ideas and treatments, and work together to better serve clients.

Third Root strives to be Accessible, Empowering, and Collaborative:

Accessible: We offer sliding scale fees, a staff trained in anti-oppression, and a clinic that is working and building bridges within a community.

Empowering: Third Root is a place where people learn to make informed choices about self-care. We offer health education workshops, herb walks, a research area, and someone available for questions.

Collaborative: Practitioners from various modalities work together toward a client's optimum health. We will be working with members of the local community to form a Community Advisory Board as well as help shape workshops on health and wellbeing that reflect the community's needs.

    Community Acupuncture
Community Acupuncture takes place in a group setting, where patients lay in comfortable recliner chairs and receive acupuncture on their arms and legs. It's an affordable way to address your health care needs, while getting the chance to relax and enjoy some quiet time. Feel free to come in with a friend or family member and get treated at the same time!

    Acupuncture Treatment

    Acupuncture and its adjacent techniques.

    Massage (tuina and/or shiatsu)
Based on the philosophies of Chinese Medicine, gentle enough for all ages and strong enough for sports injuries. Effective for aches and pains and other aggravations

    Yoga

We offer many classes to suit various experience levels and communities, to nourish, strengthen, and relax your body and mind.

    Private Yoga Session:
Deepen your yoga practice, heal from injuries, and receive focused attention from one of our caring teachers.

    Herbal and Nutrition Consultations
Address health concerns using local herbal medicine and nutrition.

    Community Health Workshops

Every Saturday afternoon is dedicated to health education from a holistic point of view. We encourage you to submit a workshop proposal if you have skills or experiences that you could offer the community.

All of our services are based on a sliding scale, meaning that everyone should pay a similar percentage of their income for services. Therefore, those who face greater economic hardship pay less, and those with more economic opportunities pay more. Please see us for further information on how to navigate this scale for yourself.

  • Thanks brooklynleather, you're the best!

The beginner's yoga class which I was interested in is only on Mondays, early evening. I would not be able to make it back from work in time for it.

I may check out the private yoga sessions.
  • OOO I was so excited to hear about this place, seeing as I am one who could use some yoga to help with my chronic illness..I'm sad to see that they don't have any such classes in the evening though! I don't get home from work until after 7:30 :(
  • You are welcome Darla!

I would definitely send them feedback since this is there "summer schedule" maybe they need to just start classes later! You can send me notes if you don't hear back from them and I can send it to my friend.
  • brooklynleather, I will def. let them know about the hours. I did get an e-mail back late Friday night/early Sat morning from third root.

I have narrowed my search to a few places with good beginner's classes/programs. Now I need to get some gear before I start. Yes, I am vain that way. :)
  • So I got a class in at third root last week. It was a nice space. I thought it was a bit strange that there wasn't any background music. But I mentioned the lack of late evening classes to them. I would def. try them again if they had later classes.

lberghol, there are restorative yoga classes in the evenings at yogaworks union sq if you want to go straight from work.
