Alternate Side of the street parking/cleaning is such a scam! I wonder why in Park Slope the rules are in effect only two days of the week but in PH they are in effect four?
-
I believe it has to do with the city's measurement of litter on the streets. I.e. if certain jackasses would clean up after their dogs, , maybe our streets would score better and we'd have less street-cleaning.

Sweet! Thanks for the info, my car will not move 'til Friday.
[quote=NYCDOT]Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended on Tuesday, December 6 for weather conditions. -
thanks to the fantastic EmilyM, I now have halfish an udder of red franzia for mulling. I have no thermos, though.
-
whoa... also turns out the the alternate side of the street thing is off for thursday for the immaculate conception, so that means i can even move my car freely and not worry about the street side thing until friday, when I will be on my way out of town anyway.

you can go to DOT's site and sign up for an email notification of parking holidays and emergency snow days
i miss having a car . . . and the joy of using it freely when parking rules are suspended
this snow is wimpy tho - we went out to play and . . . it stopped -
yeah... i was utterly disappointed this morning. YOU HEAR ME, NATURE?? WEAK!

having gone through both experiences, i can't say that two days is much better than four days. on Park Place in PS, unless you find a way to be home between 11 and 2 on Monday to double-park and move your car back, you are not going to easily get a spot. most people on my block are home all day and are just putting the same cars on the same spot within minutes. my wife, who works in downtown Brooklyn, often comes home during lunch just to make sure we get a spot. on Sundays, if your car isn't in a Tuesday spot by 3:00 PM, good luck.
PH offered a bit more flexibility, even though we ended up having to worry about moving it a lot more. even if it was midnight, though, and i had forgotten to move the car, i could find something on Dean between Carlton and Vanderbilt about 80% of the time.
since we have the means to move the car on Monday afernoons, I'd say I prefer the PS side. if my wife didn't work 10 minutes away, though, we'd be shit out of luck and wishing we were back on the other side of Flatbush. -

I don't have a thermos, but I did come across this article about winter drinks http://www.nymetro.com/nymetro/nightlife/barbuzz/15219/ in case we need more ideas on what to concoct

I guess it's a totally moot point now. stupid snow. text me if you want to hang out later, folks, I'm at a really boring conference and will have zero fun email/web access.

I've got my office holiday party after work, but I should be back in the neighborhood by 7 or 8. Of course, are we really going to play in the slush?

But, I'll walk you to your door I guess and then brave crazy lane all alone. I'm such a good egg today! -
It is/was so nasty out today. I dont want to go back outside until April!

If the street cleaners can't clean the street because there is snow on the ground then why should people have to move their cars?
Even when there is not snow on the middle of the street, there is usually snow still on the parking sides which means that street cleaners won't be in use there.
If the city can't hold up it's end of the deal (cleaning streets) why should people have to hold up theirs?
Because it is a racket that generates millions in tickets for the city.
Howdy, Stranger!
